Apologies for the morbid subject matter folks, but it's been on my mind recently with several family health situations.
How do sole traders and sole directors handle bereavement leave? When there isn't another person to keep the show on the road?
This isn't yet something I've ever had to deal with, but with closer family members, it's now only a matter of time.
Obviously unplanned leave in and of itself is more disruptive for certain businesses than others, depending on everyday responsibilities, business type, etc. While I'd like to think I'd be able to soldier on through as we tend to with illness and other emergencies, I'm also aware with a bereavement there's a distinct possibility of going to pieces for a few days. And if nothing else, there's the sheer amount of post-death admin to deal with.
Did you take bereavement leave? If so, how long for?
And what kind of email or autoresponder did you write for your clients?
Sorry again for the depressing topic. I'm thinking the more I can anticipate this in advance, the slightly less stressful it'll be when it eventually occurs.
