Hi there

I'm Looking for a bit of advice, if anyone has any experience with this.

I'm considering becoming a freelance social media consultant. I have quite a bit of experience with running my own campaigns for my own businesses, and feel I am confident enough to offer these services to others. However, I'm really struggling to find anywhere to chat to others 'in the game' to get all the info I need before I make the leap into it.

Does anyone know of any specific forums where freelance social media consultants gather?

I just want to ask general questions, like how do they manage to take holidays, what do they charge, what's the correct way to take control of clients social media accounts etc. I know the basic way, but perhaps there's a more complex way I need to know of which is safer?

I really don't seem to be able to find any books, websites or forums which are specifically on this subject. Only social media in general.

Any info would be very gratefully received.

Thanks :)

I woukdnt assume just because you have run your own social media campaigns- makes you qualified to run them for other people.

As a consultant you will need to understand which channels to use to reach different audiences, how to develop campaigns and content and how to set measurable objectives and evaluate campaigns reach and activity.

There are lots of networking events and forums for those working in digital marketing and PR and for freelances which you can join.

Freelances and consultants can get other freelances to cover work during holiday periods.

    Good luck.

There is definitely a market for freelance social media consultants - if you are just starting out start working for smaller companies - they may not have big budgets but are more forgiving if you are still learning - and, let's face it, in the world of digital marketing it is one big learning rollercoaster.

Many people, employed or freelance are earning as they go along - just make sure you do provide value for money.

Sally, As soon as I read your post I had some brilliant ideas you may want to target, Its hard work but defiantly worth while.

When ever we get approached to about social media it's always about teaching people how to manage their social media never to manage it for them, Its only when we explain the process and how it needs to be constant that we then drop it in so for example "do this do this do this do this oh or let us do it because we have developed some systems that allows us to manage multiple accounts at once?"

So with that being said you can market yourself online as a trainer selling training to people and while boosting your business. I would recommend YouTube marketing to get things rolling and an effective website that produces results with correct squeeze pages and list building.

Feel free to pm me more than happy to help I love talking about marketing!

You don't mention if you have a job at the moment, but the 'safest' way to test this is to start picking up some private clients on the side of your current job and see how you get on. A basic website or responding to SM requests on sites like Freelancer and Upwork etc. might get you some experience and confidence.
