Become a heating engineer advice

I am currently in full time employment and would like to do a course to become a qualified heating engineer/plumber what course/course can someone recommend for me to do whilst still in full time employment ?

Not sure of length of time etc but I'm sure heating engineers need to be gas safe registered may be info on their site.

I don't think it's a quick process I'm sure my friend did a 4 year apprenticeship
