Be Careful with Filezilla

Dear all,

Just a quick one to warn you to be careful with Filezilla. I was just coping a load of files to my desktop and my finger literally slipped and took down my website.

I believe it's rectifiable but there's a few error messages coming up when I try to move the files back!

Be careful with Filezilla is the moral of the story (or just don't be as stupid as I am!)

no different to any FTP software. It's very easy to delete or move things accidently.

i think all ftp software are the same. you can change the setting so that you get a popup to which you have to click ok to initiate file transfer. more time consuming, but safer if you have butter fingers

I hadn't realised it was universally the same.

I use Cyberduck and never encountered this before - then again how often does your finger slip?!

It's really annoyed me, just hope it can be rectified!

This is what happens when you work with live data and live files. You need to be very careful. It's just as easy to make a mistake and upload files from the wrong folder, over writing one website with another.

I'm always nervous when I use desktop software to access live databases too, triple checking before running any commands. Nothing worse than running a Delete on what you thought was your test database only to find out different one second after hitting that button.

Yeah this happened to me before. I was just trying to open a folder but somehow renamed the folder and moved it, totally crashing my site. Luckily I managed to workout what I had done and fixed it.

Another reason backups are important.

Never had problems like that with any FTP Software.

But as said, backup before doing anything to your website.

I almost did the same thing when I switched from a PC to Mac. I had to upload some files and almost messed up my site in the process I always recommend storing 2 backups of your website in different locations for safety. That way nothing can go wrong.

Yeah thats easily done same with Dreamwever but least that has an undo button !

Hitting the delete button...deletes stuff ^^
Hey, be cautious not to hit the delete button if u dont wanna delete.

Also dont switch off the power off button on your pc if u dont wanna power off ^^
Dont close the door if you wanna walk through the frame, watch out !

Simples. Don't use the site manager feature to store a password.

The less places you have any password stored by it's nature will improve security.

No it has encryption but uses a static key making it easy to exploit and other info stored is not encrypted. Really poor programming in my opinion.
