BBC using QR codes

Was interested to see the BBC had started to use QR codes on a cooking program after each dish to give the view the link to the ingredients page! First time I've seen one of these codes and thought, hey that's actually useful!!

I just put a page up on my smart poster site with numerous case studies on how companies and organisations are using QR Codes in their marketing

http://www.smart-poster.co.uk/qrcode-marketing

Here are a couple of examples:

In one of the largest QR Code campigns during July and August 80 million U.S. households will receive a Valpak envelope with a QR Code that with link the QR Code scanner to a social media related website, a TV alert, mail opt-in or other calls to action.

The agency responsible for Tesco's QR Code virtual supermarket promotion in Korea, Cheil won the Media Grand Prix last week at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The award is presented for the best in international advertising. By the innovative use of QR Codes subways have been transformed into virtual supermarkets. When Home Plus (Samsung have a 6% stake) announced their figures for this campaign the rest of the marketing world suddenly woke up; Tesco reported that online sales had increase over a three month period by a massive 130%, not only did the campaign win three prestigious awards including the festivals highest award but showed real growth in sales. Rather than wait for the customers to come to them Tesco used QR Codes to bring their offering to their consumers

....if I were to make up a QR via a QR program, what do I do with it?

Do I just point it to our website?

I was thinking that if I had one of the QR codes on my van it would be a quick way for potential customers to get all the info they need.

Is that right or am I missing a trick here?

Think I've commented on this already, but publishers need to use their common sense about where the codes are placed. I've seen loads of phonebox adverts but the QR code has been at the bottom...?! No one is going to get their phone to the pavement level for scanning.

Ive just seen the Tesco one and its a simple but brilliant idea based on understanding the needs of customers. I came across it on econsultancy (see link below) and there are some other interesting examples which are worth checking out. The Radisson Edwardian one I really like too as it's a great way to engage with customers.

One of the themes here is to add QR codes to your products/services if you can add any value to the customer. If you sell TVs for example, perhaps add a QR code with a video on how to set it up.

I think QR codes are a great way of engaging customers and I also use them as part of my twitter feed to link to my personal website I would post a link but I have just started using this forum this week.

The benefits of QR codes will only increase as smart phone usage increase it will probably take 50% stake in the overall market by 2012 they way things are going at the moment
