Hi all,

Not much technological savvy and just bought a new computer system for my home office which is great and super quick.

Only issue is it is preloaded with Microsoft Works, which I think Noah threw off the ark as it was outdated.

Whats the cheapest (legal) place anyone can point me in the direction of obtaining a full copy.

I have noticed PC World advertising a student package at about £80 on the TV but presuming not being a student rules me out of this.

I really do require all of the packages, including Outlook which is hurting not having at the mo as having all work e-mails through the laptop.

Thanks for any help, sorry for basic question...

Well, while it might have a bit of a learning curve, your quickest/cheapest option is to go for Open Office ( www.openoffice.org ) rather than MS Office. It'll open all your MS Office files (including Office 2007/8), save files as MS Office files etc.

For email, you could look at Mozilla's Thunderbird, which I now prefer to Outlook.

However, for MS Office you're going to need to fork out - Standard Office 2007 is on amazon for about £260, and Office 2003 is still around, but either OEM (no manuals and a bit dodgy) from about £75 or 'used and new' from about £115.

Personally I'd just go Open-Source (i.e. Open Office and Thunderbird) and pay nothing - which is what I did a couple of years back, and have no intention of returning to MS Office.

Cheapest legal way to get office is to buy Office 2007 Standard....standard should suffice for what you need.

Unfortunetly there is no cheap way around it unless your a student.

Office 2007 is pretty expensive....about £230 - the part code is 021-07746
