I'm in the process of upgrading my payment processing and stumbled across the ePDQ from Barklays and after an initial chat I've got the application form sat here ready to complete.

It does everything I need, integrates with my site and has a virtual PDQ plus the cost are much cheaper than PayPal (my current gateway).

Also I like the idea that its a reputable company rather than an unknown processing service.

Has anybody used the service or has any input into my impending decision?

Cheers.

Hi Chris

We specialise in VTG/merchant accounts and also ecommerce services, and we currently have over 27K merchants on our books..

Our payment gateway and VTG platform has been around since 2010 with zero down time to date.

We can start you off from as little as £ 30 PCM with CAPPED merchant rates, and this will enable you to process up to £ 4K of transactions PCM with out any additional merchant charges or per transaction fees.

We can also get you from Application to live in less than 5 days (subject to our supporting your chosen shopping cart, and your application is approved).

Finally our Customer Service is nothing like that which you normally receive from a Bank related Organisation..

If you would like an indicative quote for comparison, please PM me.

Rgds

We generally find Barclays ePDQ offering to be expensive and get this same feedback from more and more merchants looking to switch. I may be wrong but I do not think they allow you to use a different merchant account with their gateway so you are locked in unless you change the whole payment system. If you had a WorldPay or Sagepay gateway (and many others) for example, you can mix and match with a different merchant account.

Hi Chris,

Used them for 2 years, have never had 1 problem, support always great. Couple of down periods but that's the only negative I can think of.

Gives customer's a lot of confidence in purchasing too.

We found Barclays epdq to be expensive, poorly implemented and unsecure with awful customer services.

The page it redirects customers to pay on looks like it was made in the 90s and does nothing to reassure the customer, if I saw it not knowing that it is real I would think it was dodgy.

Someone in another country hacked our password and refunded 10s of thousands of pounds to cards all over the world and then Barclays rang us to ask if it was us.. and told us they weren't sure what was going to happen.

After the money was refunded to us we asked what we could do and they said we could setup a rule to say no refunds over £x but that if they had our password they could just login and turn the rule off so essentially nothing we can do.

We are now with paypal pro, no redirects or iframes which looks much more professional and conversions have gone up, and our fees have gone down from 3% with Barclays to 1.9% soon to be 1.4%. Also paypal's fraud detection is a million miles better and has tools like individual logins for our staff with limits to what they can do.

Hi Chris

A few negative comments here, along with a couple supportive of ePDQ. I believe the negative ones are largely based on historical experience. I've had a chat with Cardswitcher to bring them up to date with our current offers.

Currently I can tell you the ePDQ platform is very feature rich, with 99.99% uptime (100% for the past 12 months), and we have some very competitive offers in place e.g :- £45 per month all inclusive for 300 transactions. Caveats are card transaction turnover up to £60K pa, and an average transaction value of £150 or less. No minimum billing and absolutely no additional costs. Although there's a 12 month contract, you can cancel in the first 3 months with no penalty.

For a few quid a month extra you can use the dynamic template with your payment page. This is still hosted by us, so there are no PCI DSS issues, but it allows you to customise the payment page so it looks the same as your online shop, improving the customer experience, and minimising the chance of customers abandoning the payment process.

If your card payment profile is different, we have other very competitive offers. Call our sales team on 0800 046 6807.

Good luck with your decision.

Oops - don't know what happened with my post just now. Lesson to self - don't write something in Word then paste it into a message reply. Hope you can still read the content alright.

Hi Peter,

I use ePDQ but don't pay any monthly fees; we may a % of the transaction and a fee thereafter, it works for what I am doing at the min. Is it possible for me to customise the payment page as like an above user said, it looks like it was made in the 90's..
