Barcode Font for EAN

I was thinking of trying to print some barcode numbers out that we have

It needs to be in EAN 13

Is there such a thing as a font that will just print out the EAN as a barcode instead of as a string of digits - and is that all there is to it

Then I can use word or publisher etc

A free one maybe

Yes, there are barcode fonts that you can just use within MS Word or pretty much any text processor that support fonts.

I don't know the spec for EAN 13, but some barcode formats require specific start and stop characters, or a check character at the end. If this is the case with EAN, then you may need to work this out programmatically if not obvious from the numbers you already have, and just using Word wont be sufficient.

Only a few barcode fonts are free, most others you'll need to pay for.

Hi there,

The only free font I know to download is called 3of9 (google search to download). You need to start and end the barcode with an asterix (*).

The only way I have ever used to print EAN barcodes is to throw ZPL instructions at a zebra printer using my own software which obtains the barcode information from a SQL database.

For what reason do you wanting the barcodes for? stock control? pallet labels?

Yes I have found that I have to use 3of9 which gives a longer barcode than normal EAN ones but for those you need some intelligence built in so cannot just simply use as a dumb font.

Page, not sure if you have noticed, but the barcodes are shorter if you use letters in CAPS (if you use letters that is)

Don't use a barcode font because the numeric equivalent of the barcode isn't always the same as the human readable EAN, because the last digit is a check digit.

Use an online barcode generator that will give you an image file. Google can help you there.
