I just came across this post (typically got distracted whilst researching something else entirely) regarding Bar Code Registration:

Whilst I wasn't aware that registration was required for Bar Coding, I do understand that different countries use different standards (EAN-13 for EU members for example), and on reflection I can see that registration makes sense across international trading boarders.
However we are manufactures of UNIQUE products which have been developed by ourselves with full IP protection in Europe and other countries.
So because we are the sole originator of the products, sole seller and currently sole distributor, do we still need to register our own bar codes?
Our products are unique after all, its not like were selling everyday goods like potatoes or tea bags and other commodities so whats the big deal?
