Got a call from a panicked chap
Telling me that he paid 20K into our business account and I must return it straight away
Checked it and a customer had done .

I explained to him that I will sort it out after I had phoned his boss and he then got proper stroppy

I told him to have a relationship with his mother and told him what socket to use

Customer then phones to say that their systems had been hacked and for me not to pay anybody .

I reported this transaction to my bank and they said thanks and not to worry

    Now my account is suspended
How long does it normally take to get it back after an attack
    Also
Can I take legal action against this customer for their complete lack of care

Luckily at my time of life I can easiy personally fund this firm but its a bloody pain

I suppose several questions come to mind here, is this someone you normally do business with, so could have been a genuine error, however if their bank is anything like mine you get so many warnings about "are you sure" your transferring to the correct place etc etc and its not a scam are you paying an invoice on the face of it seems pretty odd.

Or a major cock up on his part. I think the bit about his account being hacked I suspect is trying to deflect the blame. Quite right to sit on it, and as you say speaking to your own bank before taking any action, in fact I would let the bank sort it out and make any transfers back to whence it had come.

I guessing the bank have frozen your account to stop you moving the money on or even withdrawing it. Can't answer your question of how long the bank might take to sort this out, but personally I would be asking them to even move the 20K from your account into a holding account the bank must have whilst they sort it out, unfreeze yours so you can get on with business.

Hope you can it sorted, a real pain

That seems unlikely. The payment has been 'made' although could still be cancelled by the payer. If the account has not been hacked, the customer will want their money back, eventually.

Just to be clear a hacker had hacked in his account and paid us

THe hacker phoned me to transfer to another account but I had other important things going on and told him to wait all this time unaware it was a hacker .It was only when he got nasty about it that I decided to make him wait until I had called the company owner

Ah got you. Makes you wonder how they had been hacked and then had access to bank account etc. However saying that around two years ago my son had strange things going on with his Lloyds business account. Money went out he immediately phoned bank, they locked it all down, paid him the money back, set up a new account same thing happened again within a few days.

Turned out to be an inside job at the bank, it will come as no surprise when I tell you he no longer uses them.
