Bad weather

Hi,

Every time we have bad weather my computer goes slow and the internet goes on and off all the time. Is this normal? I get a message at the bottom of my screen saying local area connection is unplugged, then AOL turns off. My plugs are not unplugged. Is there something I can do.

Sounds as though you're connected to AOL using ADSL with a USB modem. If this is correct then....

Check that everything that is plugged into your phoneline is running through microfilters.

When this starts happening next, try removing all phone equipment from your lines (other than the microfilter and modem), and plugging it directly into the master phone socket (usually the only socket with a BT logo). - If this helps, then maybe one of your phones is interfereing.

Try replacing your microfilters with a different brand.

If none of the above works, then it's most likely a BT/AOL phoneline fault. You can try getting it resolved through AOL which will most likely be tricky (intermittant faults are horrible), but certainly do-able. Your other option would be downgrade your connection speed - lower speeds are usually more reliable.

Thank You James I know I have a modem, but that's the extent of my knowledge :lol:

And to the other two CHEEKY SODS,

I like AOL, it's taken me from January to learn how to use it, don't want to start again. And my roof is fine, thank you very much :lol:

Lol Jayne..AOL really can be a curse more than a help at times. I know so many people that have problems with it and although I really like the facility it offers to children on there, the reliability of it was one think I hate!

And talking of bad weather just after replying to this thread we had a terrible thunderstorm and my connection wasnt very good either (but then that could have been due to the fact that it was very quickly turned off)!!

My internet went off 5 times last night. It's fine when the weather is ok. I love AOL, it's got calenders and all sorts on it.
