Can any suggest a couple of places to get some good backlinks like directories, forums etc

My competition has a few good ones but they have built the website are are getting some good links.

I could try blogging but can't think of enough things to write and my grammer is not great lol and its very time consuming.

As the last poster mentioned, you will want to get your social profiles configured and linking to your site. Especially important are facebook, twitter,G+ and setting up a linkedin profile and business page.

After that, you will want to be listed on some high quality directories.... for your business I would suggest you start with FreeIndex.co.uk

At all costs avoid any mass directory submission systems or poor quality directories.

Start with yell. ... Now every uk business can have a free link to their website.

.. the most valuable backlinks are the ones that come from an actual article that talks about the market/industry that is closely related to yours.

    Regards,
    Helmuts

p.s. the list above is a copy/paste product... A poster even didn't see that warrior forum was mentioned twice :/

    Here are 4 simple tips
    1. Guest Posts : If you are a good writer, which you must be if you are blogging, then back linking becomes easy. All you need is a flair to write and a willingness to do it.It is as simple as that.

    2. Submit Articles : Another option is to go the sites that allow you to post a blog with a backlink. This has the stamp of authority and you can be assured that the backlink is welcome.

    3. Pay for Backlinks : Everyone is not happy paying for the backlinks but it is one of the most assured ways to get.

4.Social Bookmarking Bites : Bookmarking your sites may not be very popular but it sure does pay.

Hope this will help you a lot.

Guest posts only on good high trust blogs, why would a blog owner, with a higher ranked website than yours, let you put a blog post with a link, that could affect his ranking ? - Don't think so !
Have article sites in "general" been devalued - YES
Paid links ! against Google T&C ever heard of Interflora ?
Social bookmarking sites - only the best ones, the rest have thousands and thousands of spammers links !

In general there are better ways to do this but remember QUALITY :|

Agree with this. Also, if you don't have time for blogging - which is essential these days (updated, fresh, relevant, unique content that Google wants to see) then commission in articles - iwriter is good. I've just commissioned 6 articles for a big computer reseller who is an SEO client - they won't appear on the main site menu but are in the site map; you can use similar to post generic articles on your blog.

    PR 9 1. wordpress.com {spam list snipped}

If you think you can sign up at sites like this and get 'excellent quality backlinks' based on already existing links/pagerank on the root domain then you are horribly mistaken.

Do you really think Google is going to let you create an account on Wordpress.com and then trust it as a 'page rank 9 link'?

You might get away with parasitic hosted pages on really obscure sites... you're not going to have any joy trying it with Wordpress (in the top 30 sites in the world...)

    add2dir.info, alistdirectory.com, backupreview.info/directory/
    crazyleafdesign.com/webdirectory, web-hosting-top.com, 3d2f.com, add-page.com/, alistsites.com, allthewebsites.org/, arakne-links.com/, directoryvault.com, directoriespage.com

Come-on, you can do better than those. The only one I've heard of from that list is directoryvault - the rest.... worthless, spammers haven :(

Exactly right - the world is about status, and who is top dog. The dogs are the pack leaders, they control who gets in and who doesn't.

The struggling biz owners don't want to hear this, as they can't afford to advertise and is the main reason why they chase worthless links on unheard of freebie sites.

The good sites have always been off-limits to the brethren spammer. Why they choose to believe otherwise - its just not normal.
