The are hundreds, but step back and consider this response one of my clients recently had from Bing when asking why he had no pages showing for terms.
"Unfortunately, the present SPAM block will remain against this website as many of the website domains inlinks are spammy/thin affiliate sites which offer little value plus lacking unique content."
If that quote is real, I'm off to blast my competitors with spammy/thin affiliates links now I know it's that easy to get a site removed. The quality of inbound links will never effect a website negatively. They just won't have any value and are a complete waste of time.
Think about it. If you could damage a website this easily everyone would be sending spammy links to the competitors and the search engines would be finished.
However if your client has been sending out spam FROM his domain, that's a little bit different.
have you seen a good company or website to help you SEO your site? Well, there are plenty to choose form, these companies are everywhere. But you have to be cautious, some are just to do nothing and earn from you. To be able to find a good link builder for you, study their site well, know their customers, and talk to them via call or in person. Just to be sure.
