The are hundreds, but step back and consider this response one of my clients recently had from Bing when asking why he had no pages showing for terms.

"Unfortunately, the present SPAM block will remain against this website as many of the website domains inlinks are spammy/thin affiliate sites which offer little value plus lacking unique content."

have you seen a good company or website to help you SEO your site? Well, there are plenty to choose form, these companies are everywhere. But you have to be cautious, some are just to do nothing and earn from you. To be able to find a good link builder for you, study their site well, know their customers, and talk to them via call or in person. Just to be sure.

The skill standards of SEO agencies varies enormously. Do remember that at many agencies the impressive guy you talk to about your site initially, isn't necessarily the one who ends up optimising for you. They can be a great help with the heavy lifting, but just go into it with your eyes open.

Most importantly, be sure to understand the consequences of taking risks with cheap/paid backlinks to your site. The cheap links are increasingly less effective, so you might also want to think about general PR and branding for your company.

That said, if you want some quickfire link building; search for 'manual link building' on google. Those guys offer a relatively transparent service which allows you to retain more control over what happens to your site...

Digital Ark

Buy a book like Search Engine Optimisation - an hour a day as a good grounding.

Spend time creating good content, engage on relevant forums and blogs being smart on anchor text.

Submit to useful, respected directories (not those who offer to submit to 1000's in one hit).

Social media - get involved, build trust and then mention your site.

As people have said there are many different solutions and approaches. Care is needed as you do not want to fall foul of Google or Bing and be bounced from the index.

Al the best

If that quote is real, I'm off to blast my competitors with spammy/thin affiliates links now I know it's that easy to get a site removed. The quality of inbound links will never effect a website negatively. They just won't have any value and are a complete waste of time.

Think about it. If you could damage a website this easily everyone would be sending spammy links to the competitors and the search engines would be finished.

However if your client has been sending out spam FROM his domain, that's a little bit different.

The quote is word for word. My clients mostly just do their content and I do everything else thats the service I provide. None send mass email, I would be very suprised if any did any backlinking, most of them wouldn't know how to.

You find it odd, I find it odd and even a chap I know who works for Bing thinks it's odd, he's being trying to resolve it for about two weeks now but they block was put in back in Nov.

On the subject or competitors, I raised that with Bing because the is a main competitor who I'm sure might do such a thing. But I thought about it and I'm sure if I did anything like that to him the result would be his ranking though the roof - thats just my luck.

Yes you said it right. But to monitor your SEO, you have to talk to them more often. Monitor regularly the activities that they are doing for your website.
