I own a company that sells services B2B and when I invoice I always add my clients business address. However, I've started a new company that sells services B2C. With regard to invoicing, do I have to invoice clients? If so, do I need to put their home address on the invoice when paying via BACS? Alternatively, could I send clients a special link e.g. Stripe or Wix Payments to make the payment instead of via BACS? Would the latter require me to include an address on an invoice? Thanks for your help in advance.

    Thank you!

In this case, I'm going to go ahead with receipts. Any idea on the requirements of receipts, or could it be as simple as a text message confirming the purchase?
How will you put the transaction through your accounts?

What paperwork will you have to match what is in the accounts? I always just issue an invoice to every client, it saves losing things.
Oh, I see what you mean now. I speak with all clients directly via the phone, so I'll text them following the payment with the following information, then I'll screenshot it, and add it to the transaction.
    • your company’s details including name, address, phone number and/or email address
    • the date of transaction showing date, month and year
    • a list of products or services showing a brief description of the product and quantity sold
    • the amount of the transaction with the total amount broken down down to show the net amount, VAT (if VAT has been added) and any discounts
    • the method of payment – ie cash, credit or debit card etc.

In this case I would suggest to issue invoices since the client volume would not be excessive. Keep in mind that you can still issue the receipts and you should choose a way preferable to the both you and your customers.
Ok, but do I have to put the clown to address on the receipt? If so, it’s an irritating customer experience.

In the invoice you are legally obliged to include the following:
    • a unique identification number
    • your company name, address and contact information
    • the company name and address of the customer you’re invoicing
    • a clear description of what you’re charging for
    • the date the goods or service were provided (supply date)
    • the date of the invoice
    • the amount(s) being charged
    • VAT amount if applicable
    • the total amount owed
You can look at HMRC guides as well: www.gov.uk/invoicing-and-taking-payment-from-customers/invoices-what-they-must-include

But, that’s my point, I’m invoicing individuals, not companies, so do I need to put their home address on them.

I want a smooth customer experience. I don’t want to ask for any more information that what’s necessary to provide my service.
Are you VAT registered? If not, I don't think you need the address on the invoice,
