Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of direct mail marketing to businesses using purchased data?

I'm looking at sending product samples to a targeted list. I'm sure I'll probably go ahead and test it with a small list segment but one thing that is a bit tricky is making sure I don't send samples to existing customers. Any tips to avoid this without having to manually check each one?

Hi Chicharito

It's fairly routine for a business list provider to suppress a clients customer list from any data to be supplied so that you should only receive fresh records. There is normally no charge to run this suppression before supply.

I still augment my marketing activity with business data and have done for many years, although I now tend to use lists in combination/alongside other avenues such as Linked In. They can certainly identify a base of business to engage with if the list is segmented carefully to suit your needs.

Hope that helps

I've sent samples on 2 occasions to bought data that i had targeted specially and i had 1% purchase BUT i didn't follow up with phone calls which i should have done but didn't have the time.

To find out if you have duplicate data, if you merge the 2 files (1 of your customers and 1 of your bought list into one) it depends what format you have them in. Lets say you have it in an excel spreadsheet, see this tutorial (i cant yet post urls so add all the w's at the beginning and add the dot instead of the word, sorry!) thinketg(dot)com/how-to-return-multiple-match-values-in-excel-using-index-match-or-vlookup/
Good luck
