A UKBF member was highly commended in a national competition to find the best insurance brokers in the UK last week (Tuesday 6 December 2011).
Lockyer Insurance, based in Normanton in Yorkshire, was one of five finalists in the running for the Independent Broker of the Year category in the annual awards run by Insurance Times magazine and designed to celebrate exceptional achievement throughout the insurance industry.
Lockyers who are a Member of Broker Network the UKs leading network of independent insurance brokers were pipped at the post by Romero Insurance Brokers, but were highly commended by the judges following a rigorous assessment process.
The glittering awards ceremony - billed as the biggest industry party of the year took place at Battersea Evolution in London and was attended by more than 1,400 guests. It was hosted by radio and TV presenter, Vernon Kay.
Jon Newall, Principal of Lockyer Insurance, said: This is the first time weve entered the awards and were thrilled with our commendation. A huge well done goes out the Romero who won the category but watch out, well be back bigger and better for next years awards!
The company which has been trading since 1981 serves clients in the Leeds and Wakefield areas, as well as a number of niche areas nationwide including business insurance, commercial property, hotels, skiphire and waste trade.
More recently, it developed a bespoke insurance scheme for the increasingly popular Garra Rufa fish pedicure salons. It was recognised for the improvements theyve made during the year, in particular the efforts to improve their planning processes and investment in young talent.
Jon said: Im a third generation independent broker and Ive been in the business since I was 15, so its virtually in my DNA to remain independent. To be recognised in this way is a real boost for me and my staff and I want to say thanks to them and to all our clients who value a face to face local service from a local broker.
