Automating The Follow-Up Process

I'd like to extend my follow-up process so that when an enquiry comes in through my website I can automatically follow-up with 4 or 5 emails spread over a month. Currently I use excel to keep track of enquiries and enter dates into the spreadsheet for when I need to follow up, and then do it manually - it's a really clunky process, but unfortunately the only software I can find that does it well (like Infusionsoft) seems to cost thousands of pounds per year. Does anyone know of anything that's a little cheaper?

Essentially I just want to send automatic emails that stop once a customer replies. I can find plenty of websites that can drip emails to customers - the problem seems to be stopping them automatically once of them replies. Obviously I don't want the follow-ups to carry on at that point.

Kashflow has something which allows chasing for quotes. Similarly you can set something up in either mailing manager.co.uk or aweber and then control the messaging sent. You do this by just removing the email from the live list to a different list i.e. a pre order list (awaiting payment of issued invoice) so you chase them for something else or a customer list where they get a customer on boarding message.
