Automatic membership

I had a thought (silly me)
I don't think this is part of UKBF's strategy............

If someone makes it to 1000 posts.. they become a full member automatically. This pays back a) the content they have generated b) a forum loyalty reward.

Does that sound cool? </showingcompassionforthenonmembers>

I think it would generate a lot more spam on the site so people can get to their 1000 mark and get free membership.

Really? I wouldn't spam any forum just to get a post count, but maybe that's just me!

However, even if that were the case, it would merely create a minimal amount of work for the mods on top of the spam they already control.

Spam posts, to be honest, are the easiest to spot and control.

Having said that, I don't really see why a site that has people willing to pay to be full members would take a stance of this kind anyway. Whilst cash can be generated, one doesn't tend to give away membership, in my experience, unless guaranteed of another way in which to increase funds through that 'giveaway'.

It's a nice idea, and could work, but I think 1000 is way too low and people would go out of their way to reach that figure. However if we're talking maybe 8000 posts, then I feel we've set the bar high enough so that the fly by night spammers won't bother, and only dedicated full time UKBFers' will be rewarded.
