Hello Everyone,

We have recently set up an online Jewellery store. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to attract people to the website? We have a twitter account and a facebook page already! Any more ideas?

Thanks,

Diva Jewellery :)

Blog, a lot!

Seriously the top things I would suggest:
1) Hire an SEO firm to undertake your online marketing (at a budget you can afford. You'll find several to choose from here on UKBF.
2) Write a lot of quality content, filled with lovely photos and keywords, publishing on your own site. It's like search engine bait. Build it and they will come. Tweet/Facebook post about your recent articles and specials.
3) Write on other web 2.0 platforms and link back to your site
4) Look at guest posting opportunities on other sites, whereby you provide content with a link back to yourself, and in exchange the other site owner gets fresh content they didn't have to write

#1 is the most effective and costly
#2/3/4 you can do yourself at only a cost of time and effort

As others have said, SEO is a good way to go.

That being said, make sure the content you write is GOOD. Don't write just for the sake of throwing keywords in there; two reasons. One, Google will destroy you - simple.

Two, people won't stick around very long if you don't have anything of value to read. And it's the people who stick around who will end up buying.

As Dave has said, a PPC campaign would help you also.

Ben.

What about working out some arrangements with non-competing businesses who are complementary to your own?

In other words, you offer to market their non-competing products in exchange for them marketing yours. It's a win-win proposition with no downside.

To get the best reactions from people you either need to be capturing leads (so you can email market for them) or have a decent organic (or social) presence, so that you can reach people using those media.

Digital Internet

I agree with everyone else regarding SEO, but I want to give a second shout for Pinterest. It's a social site with a mostly female user base who like to share pictures. It's the perfect platform for free website promotion and many online retailers are using it to generate traffic to their websites.

Another way to generate interest is to run a competition - you could give away some jewellery or perhaps a gift voucher and promote it on Twitter and Facebook. Try to direct people to your site to find out the rules or enter as they may end up looking around the site as well. This is a short term solution, but you could run a monthly giveaway to maintain interest.

Hi Diva,

I'd third the Pinterest suggestion - if you've got some really great products, it's a fantastic place to show them off and drive traffic to your website. If you're lucky (or more to the point, have some great pictures), you can drive thousands of visitors to your site.

With Facebook and Twitter, it's important to have a presence, but simply setting up profiles and updating them now and again won't cut it. You'll need to think about putting in place a social media strategy to make sure you're getting the most out of them. Think about your target customer group and how you can provide value and useful content, build targeted fans and followers, and remember that 'selling' should be in the minority - about 20% of your updates, with 80% being around sharing interesting content, engaging with potential customers, etc. Decide how you'll measure your success also, so you know what's working for you and what isn't.

Good luck with it!
