Can anyone give advice on what to do with an Asus CM6330 running Windows 8.1, 64 bit, that keeps hanging/freezing? The PC was purchased in August 2013.

I had noticed it was freezing, then there was a Windows update which crashed the whole thing. I did a complete reinstall of Windows 8 and then upgraded to Windows 8.1 – which brought me back to where I started. The system is working well – BUT – at least once a day it freezes and the only thing I can do is power off by holding the reset button for 5 seconds – I know this is not good but I do not have any other option.

I have run ScanFix and Check Disc and any issues that were identified were fixed. All Windows Updates are downloaded automatically.

What is my next step?

Hi Chris, I don't have McAfee, but I do use Norton 360 which updates automatically and I also have Malware Bytes which I run manually. I just ran the DISM and it indicated that a repair had been carried out (I had already done this a couple of days ago), so I will see how things go over the next few days.

Thanks for your advice.

UPDATE - well that didn't work, I left the PC running from lunchtime Friday and it froze at 04:52 the following morning. I did create a recovery disc a few months ago, can I use this to re-install the OS without losing my files, etc. I did have to do a complete re-install a few weeks ago and then had to spend ages for all the updates, re-installing software, etc. Also does it matter that I have upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1? Apart from the freezing the PC works well. Am I even going in the right direction?
