Do youi think that you should post the same article to 5 or 6 sites or post unique articles to them.
 
Their is a risk of duplicate content penalties I know that. I would say write different articles if possible (or re-write the articles).
I have 1 main article for my site supported by up to 4 shorter articles that link back to the main article. Same topic, similar content but all unique and all leading back to the main article which expands on the points.

Depending on who you speak to - the best way to do this is

- Release your article on the best suited site for your topic [some base that on Page Rank, Relevance, Popularity, yada yada yada

- Link to that article for the social sites

- Bookmark your article on the social sites

Google is intelligent in that it will learn which site had the article first [crawls,time stamps, etc etc] and then filter duplicates as time goes by

I did well from others providing article content, got great rankings out of it.

I doubt people came to my site to read what others posted, more like to post links, bcos they knew they'd get a free link. The article spammers didn't realise people will never read their carefully crafted article, and I laughed all the way to No1 position for it - it was great while it lasted ofcourse, but it never does.

My advice: Dont waste your time with it, you won't be the winner.

Articles are posted/accepted for free, and like all free offers will always have a limited success rate. So anything nice, will be short-lived.

I'm so glad I jacked in the article side of my business - must discourage this sort of thing.

Your views are well documented. All I'm saying is a 30 minute investment has lead to a very lucrative contract just like another article has been responsible for circa £50k's worth of high end PA sales. Not suitable to all situations, very suited to others.

I'm with RedEvo here. I'm working on a very lucrative project which came from an article and ironically it wasn't one promoting my SEO business.

The problem is most people who try anything in IM, try something a couple of times and then assume it doesn't work instead of asking why isn't this working.

Agree with this - its a long term thing and one thing many fail to appreciate is CONTENT. Copywriting is key here as is the thought process of "WHY should someone want to read this and link to it".

Article writing is certainly one of many tools people should have in their arsenal

It's better if you spin your articles. This increases credibility and reduces the impression of automation. People like to see people behind web content, so spinning is better than duplicating. Unless, of course, you can write original articles.

Well, that's for sure. But the average bod, doesn't know what their doing, as they have no sure way to automate the process.

Most are just wannabees, and very ego-driven, they think articles is a fast route to getting their name out as an expert - trust me it isn't.

They fail bcos:

1. they aren't expert writers

2. people don't go out of their way to read articles - their too busy

3. not enough opportunities to go viral

4. too time-consuming for low results

Personally, the average joe is way better off getting out a press release to newspapers. This will get seen far quicker than some 20 min, knocked up article ever will and newspapers carry credibility, article spam databases don't, and that's the only option available, as any decent website won't want to invite trash, hoards of kids spamming them. Fear of spam, majorly stops any success from this.

Articles will always be open to major spam, as people will always do this for the freebie link, and they'll do it en-mass. Quality is rare, and too much wading is required to find anything of quality - what you going to do, scan through 500 articles until you find 1 quality one - oh please, people just don't do this sort of thing.

In my opinion, why give another website credit for an article that you have written? Keep it on your own site or blog so that you get all the credit from search engines and any visitors it generates are taken directly to your website/blog, not some article website.

Another reason why I would never submit articles to article website again is that so many decent articles are being ripped off, copied, re-worded and then re-posted onto other peoples' sites.

I came across one the other day where somebody had copied an existing article, changed a few of the words to an extent that it no longer made sense and submitted it to another article website...and the ripped-off article ranked higher by Google than the original!?! And this so-called reputable article website obviously doesn't have human checking like it suggests, since the article just didn't make sense and was a copy.

Please don't do it.

interesting. all article directories - all the popular ones used for SEO purposes at least - are full of mediocre content though, so where did this article get picked up?

I would submit 6 different titled articles for the same article if anything..
