I wrote the reasons why articles fail - see here:

the problem is enough volume - the average Joe cannot physically write enough to make it worthwhile. Publishing (to do it correctly) takes years, NOT weeks.

People blindly rush into websites without thinking long-term, I blame the huge sites for making it look easy, and they do make it look that way to outsiders looking in.

There's only 2 ways to do marketing - either you spend 75k on it and force your way through, or you create the next Youtube hit/Twitter site.

As long as your expectations are tempered by your budget, even smaller budgets can deliver nice profits.

We've had numerous clients doing 2 to 4 posts of 1000+ words per week with similar results. Some started with sites virtually brand new, some pure-play, some brick and click, others old school institutions.

If you can regularly put that level of quality content, often being remarkable even, you will find that your blog is driving a significant amount of traffic and revenue to the site.

You'll also find that those internal links have helped your organic SEO for the main 'brochure site' in ways that you might have struggled to afford otherwise.

When you're dealing with an established business that's accustomed to a flat $4mil USD revenue per year, 60% from organic search ($2.4mil), the incremental gain after 12 months of 20% ($480k) is nothing short of revolutionary.

Content marketing done right will create an inbound funnel of highly relevant traffic, boost your on-site authority, improve rankings on linked content, create and even greater perception as thought leaders/subject matter experts/people who are willing to help first and ask for the sale later.

Using content marketing, you don't need 75k in budget to effectively pad your bottom line.
