Are Linkedin Groups Dead?

Stopped using them a long time ago. Certain ones used to be quite a good resource with some genuinely useful discussion and debate. Now they're just a dumping ground for people's 'content' which they helpfully spam to every other related group too.

Shame.

To be honest I find LinkedIn a useless tool. I view it as a database for recruiters and not much else.

It seems that facebook groups has gained lots of popularity in recent times and it has reduced the effectiveness of linkedin groups.

there is a few good closed networking groups that are fairly good on facebook, but linked in i havent found much use for anymore.

Mostly, yes. Almost all the groups I am a member of, some of which were once active, are just spam dumps.

I agree, LinkedIn groups have lost what they had and that facebook has taken over. I belong to lots of niche groups that work really well on FB and Google+.
I still like LinkedIn but people have ruined it with spam and unsolicited marketing into your inbox.

There a good way for boosting your network if you've not got much of one, but otherwise I agree they are useless. They usually consist of:

A. Spam
B. Smart Alec's who post questions so they can give their 'right' answers.

There are decent ones, but they are generally hard to find.

You can have a members-only group and filter the types of people you want to have in the group. For members-only groups LinkedIn say:

• Discussions won't show up in search engine results.
• Discussions are visible to group members only.

This does help to keep the levels of spam down but sadly still doesn't eradicate it completely.

The trend that I see now is this:
- Big group = big spam
- Small group = low spam as there aren't many members and most of them are in that group for a reason or just know each other.

Its becoming shark infested as a whole. Looks to me like recruitment consultants there trying to grab people. I normally get 2 sorts of requests on there

1. Recruitment consultant which I know is going to lead to job offers
2. People that run e-learning platforms (as I'm a udemy instructor) and they are trying to get me on to their platform

I agree - it is a shame. Many people have told me of the successes people can have with LinkedIn but for myself, all the groups are spammed with content to promote themselves instead of actually being useful!

My company's group in Linkedin placed a news message and during all time of its existance it has 459 shows and only 3 clicks. The other news message has 199 shows and 0 clicks. The 3rd has 140 shows and 1 click.

I've never understood the big deal about LinkedIn... Admittedly, there are some positives from it, but on the whole - it's been extremely uneventful and useless to almost everyone I know who uses it.

In saying that, when I say some positives - what good is building a network if the people in said network don't care about what you have to say/don't notice you?...

Or is just having an annally retentive voice enough these days!
