Are "free" tyre checks worth having

Hi All

We have been approached by TrucTyre offering a free tyre inspection on our two 7.5 tonners.

The cynical part of me thinks that this is just them touting for business, and that there is a danger of them "finding" problems to generate work that doesnt need doing.

The vehicles are checked 6 weekly as part of the Operators Licence terms anyway, which includes a check on tyres.

Does anyone have any experience of using the TrucTyre (or similar) service? Does it add anything useful to your transport section?

This is just a marketing tool for a garage.

If the check is without any subsequent obligation, then it is worth having. Dodgy garages however would say that your tyres need changing and many people are acting on an impulse and place the order straight away without leaving the garage and trying to get more quotes.

I would ask them to document the check somehow (not only verbally). In this case they should really tell you the truth (or at least this is what I would believe, but it is maybe just me being naive).

Tyres should be checked daily by the driver anyhow. This is just an attempt to get your business. not worth the time parking the truck up IMO

Hi Ray

Yes its a great way for them to get business - but all they can do is to point out when a tyre needs replacing and show you (its not like a repair required where you cant see for yourself). The only potential loss is the saving you may make on comparing prices with other suppliers.
