Hi, I've recently taken on an apprentice. I am a self employed sole trader. I have notified HMRC that I am an employer as I am paying the apprentice £132 per week. What else do I need to do now? Do I need to go through payroll? Etc it's unclear on the HMRC website for apprentices so any further advice would be appreciated.

You need to set up a payroll and make RTI returns to HMRC each payday. There is a thing called Basic PAYE tools on the HMRC website which some people use. It is free but it doesn't produce payslips, which you must, by law, supply to your employee. Or you can look at software programmes. However, if you don't understand payroll it may be worth asking a payroll bureau for a quote.

Drop me a PM if you would like to look into that.
