Does anyone know of an Android App that can be used on a tablet to take order details when at a event (eg County Fair) and will then send an email confirmation to yourself and the customer? Just thinking that in these days of technology that there must be a better way than using an paper invoice duplicate book.

I had a stall at a camping event and needed to do this.

The first time I bought a Zettle card reader which has an app which you can load all your items on. However it was a little limited so I now use the PayPal one.

PayPal card reader uses a great app and nice looking email invoices. Uses bluetooth for the chip and pin and accepts most cards.

Bear in mind both need 3G connection so check with your phone provider for coverage. Also worth taking a portable mobile charger if you don't have access to mains.

if you don't want to buy the readers just download the apps and see if they have an option to make a sale without. I know both do cash payments so should work.

Dont knock the old ways - simple cheap and cost effective
feels crafty if that is the right image

Dont knock the new ways either
Feels modern if that is the right image

Instead just make sure you know what each is giving you and which seems right for your business
As opposed to a lot of technical hassle and problems for no real gain

Example - order taking at a restaurant

I find someone poking around at a screen means they lose customer eye contact and to be honest most customer contact
Yes it may go into the system slicker and into the database for reordering of the raw ingredients - hey that sounds good
But not if your customers think what an unspecial commercial dull place it is and so dont return

And that can be me !
I find there is often a link - due to the attitude behind it - on how places take orders and the quality/nature of the food
Some like one - some like the other

Hi, I stumbled over your entry because we discussed and solved a similar topic a month ago. We had a stand on a fair where people could not only buy directly our products but also order some. And we wanted to have all orders and invoices stored in one place with the client's details as well (it's always useful to have as many contacts as possible in your database :) ) So we've installed an app called Billdu on several devices. The app is an invoicing tool and creates orders as well. So we could send the orders right away. Later when the payments arrived we created invoices from the orders. Or did you have maybe something else in mind? The app is called Billdu and we use it for this kind of purposes - billdu.com

Freckles, once you've taken your order, be it on paper or App, do you enter it into an application back at the office? i.e. does the Android App need to interface with something running on your PC for example?
I'm just wondering whether a hosted remote desktop solution may work for you. This is basically a Windows desktop running on a hosted server that you can run from an Android (or iPad etc.) tablet. PM me if you need more info on this.
