Doesn't even touch what I need a Bookkeeping/Accounts package needs to do!

Not even with the free link to use FreeAgent? I would have thought most businesses using Mettle for banking would find FreeAgent ideal if the basic bookkeeping from within Mettle wasn't enough for them.

Don't bother trying to sell it to me, because it DOES NOT WORK for me!

I'm not trying to sell it to anyone Bob.

I don't sell banking services, or software.

I'm an accountant who looks after accounts and tax for small businesses so genuinely interested in feedback from anyone using Mettle as it may be of interest to my clients.

I've recently started using FreeAgent (which I do think is a great system) and was sent details from them of the new partnership Mettle. I'm aware of Mettle, but don't have any clients who bank with them yet. Mettle comes with what seems to be a very basic bookkeeping offering and a free link to FreeAgent hence I was surprised you found it didn't meet your needs.

That said I was actually a little more interested in feedback of their service ie banking.

Out of interest is anyone using Mettle?

https://mettle.co.uk

If I were to use an app based business account, I would go for an established player such as Monzo because I'd be more comfortable with the user experience. I wouldn't be swayed by any freebies as such.

Mettle is a Natwest service also, which isn't a confidence booster for me either.

Having been done over by another 'popular' app bank in the past, I won't be using any such service in future for anything other than simple everyday transactions. Not unless Barclays buy one of them out - which I think is likely, eventually.

Many thanks Darren - that was one of my initial thoughts, the trust issue of using an almost unknown service for banking.

If Mettle is part of Natwest how is it unknown?

It's has it on the footer of the homepage and mentions it in the about us page - they want to have it run under its own brand but also show that there is a bigger company behind it....not sure what more they could do?

Fair point Alan.

Whats the catch?

The catch, I have found, with app-based banks is that you will have a problem at some point in time and there isn't a nice lady in your local branch who's going to solve it for you.

In one instance (revolut) my account vanished overnight without a trace. OK, it was semi-dormant with a couple of euros in it but, nether the less, not exactly confidence inspiring?

has legs, if I were to switch it would save me £36 a month. I pay £30 a month for freeagent and £6.50 a month for barclays banking.

Whats the catch?

I think the catch is that it's app only at present so may not be suitable for everyone as a main account, but maybe as a secondary account for expenses etc which will give you a free FreeAgent licence.

Not sure if you are aware that FreeAgent is also free if you bank with RBS and NatWest. If you want to stay with Barclays your accountant will be able to get you a discount if they are a FreeAgent partner.

I expect the freeagent offer to be withdrawn at some point though, it's not sustainable, freeagent wont be providing their services to mettle for free. freeagent will want to be paid by mettle, so it's a big outlay for them.

When RBS acquired FreeAgent all NatWest and RBS customers were able to get FreeAgent free of charge. I dont know how long they intend to continue doing so but am not aware its intended to be a short term offer.
