Anyone use GSM Gateways?

Hi, I currently have 8 Burnside gateways connected to my PBX. I have authority from O2 to use their SIMs in them.

They are analogue so go straight into the PBX - Panasonix NS1000. They are also connected to ActiveSMS via USB so that I can send/receive SMS messages.

I've had these quite a while, previously used 2N easygates. The quality of the calls is very poor so I would like to update them.

Analogue FXS ports are ideal but I could also use voip. Must have the ability to send/receive SMS and voice calls must have called ID.

Any suggestions for replacements? Happy for single line or 8 line units.

Hi Graeme, has the voice quality always been poor using the Burnside g/w ?
re the O2 sims, when you use one of these in a normal mobile phone, what is the voice quality like, if you have good quality ( say 3 bars or more) , it would point to the Burnside units not having enough gain (dB signal levels) to provide good comms ( but they can easily send & receive texts)

are the Burnside units near a window ( and or ideally high up in the building ) ?

you may find that a box like the GOIP-4 ( around £100 quid ) might be a better option, you would need two of them - and instead of using the stubby aerials/antennas, take them off and use a combiner

you basically use some SMA pigtails from the GOIP-4 to the combiner, and then run an external cable to the roof of your building where a roof top antenna points to the closest O2 mobile mast in the area, whereabouts are you in the UK ( you can PM me if you want) , and I can tell you where your nearest O2 mast is, how far away it is - and what direction to point the antenna in

we can also offer an installation service for you if you prefer, I have a couple of combiners in stock, I may even have some GOIP-4's as well ( they do an 8 port version as well, but sometimes it's better to have two GOIP-4's, just in case the GOIP-8 fails for whatever reason, then all your lines are gone, with the GOIP-4, you will still have 4 working)

Hi, thanks for all that. I've never had a great reception, Always thought it was O2. I previously used 2N easygate units. I have tried combiners before, with the antenae outside, currently I have longer antenae stuck to the window ledge and seperate from each other, I dont see much difference whatever antenae I use. Havent tried those particular SIMs in a phone but I will. Normal O2 mobiles in the office are fine. We get crackles on the gsm lines. Recently it's got worse and frequently no connection which I suspect is O2. Of course they wont help when they're in gateways.

The sims are on a really old contract that allowed gateways and I have a letter confirming that so I can't change to other providers - I have done this before and they detect them and ban the sims.

How to texts work with the GOIP? With the burnside there is a usb port and I connect to them via activesms.

I'm in CV11 4JJ. Can you PM me your business details?
