I am going to give you my opinion of the apprentice, please bear in mind it is only my view.
Normally the candidates come accross as baffoons who don't know their arse from their elbow, they have the ability to mess up the simplest of tasks, such as purchasing, costing, etc these are basic business skills.
The only ability most of them have is to talk a good game, phrases such as "i'm a great leader" "i'm a winner" are banded about but with no evidence that this is the case.
The unsuccessful ones must surely leave the show and have a long preiod of unemployment as no sensible person would employ them, as they have just in effect submitted the worst video CV possible.
If you want to be on the tele go for it, if you want to be successful in business steer clear of it, kiss of death in my view.

Totally agree with Senior there.

They come across as a bunch of morons with absolutely no common sense at all. They seem to think that the way to deal with people in business is being brash, arrogant, loud and obnoxious.
I have weekly meetings with my staff and if any of them behaved in the manner you see in Sir Alan's "Board Room" (or studio mock up, whichever you prefer!), they'd be out of a job quicker thatn you could say "you're fired"!!
It cracks me up at the beginning of the show when the narrator says,"...Britains brightest business prospects..." Good God!! No wonder the country is in the state it's in then!!
As much as I like watching it, and find it hilarious, there is a serious underlying fact that these actually are the sort of people that Britain is churning out on the whole now. We're in trouble!

Interesting posting! I've never applied - I'd be too old too be considered anyway. I'm not sure they've ever had anyone beyond their late 30s? It's an amusing programme, though. The way these folks talk themselves up and then they can't do simple business tasks. Hilarious!

Obviously its brutally edited to make all of the contestants look like morons, but even with that bourne in mind, its shocking how inept they are.

The concept is fundamentally flawed in my opinion, they seem to be looking for someone with entrepreneurial flair who is a natural leader, yet the prize is to become another wage slave. Which is why I can't understand why those on the show who run their own businesses and earn more than the 100k salary on offer bother, surely it cannot simply be in the vain persuit of fame?

I've often wondered the same!

It pretty much is I'm afraid. Maybe not so much celeb fame, but certainly the hype surrounding the role and simply being able to work for a celeb like Sir Alan.

I also think it's an entertainment show so candidates are picked who will be the most entertaining to watch, as sad as it is. Personally I think they choose quite a few members who are daft and provide the most amusement but also choose a few who they know will make it to the end. I say this because whilst there are some right stupid people in the first half of the series, the last few always seem to be able to pull off a top notch project by the end.

Then again it's hard to know for sure unless I could see exactly how the whole process works of choosing candidates and the candidates doing their tasks each week.

I am in total agreement with the statement that almost all contestants more often than not act like total morons. But i do also think the production staff tend to focus on those moronic performances as it I suppose, keeps the show interesting and a bit of a laugh for the audience. If it was purely serious cut throat dry ambition type stuff then the audience would have been limited to just people like most of us. I suppose being under pressure might also cause people to act differently. I do say pressure, because i actually do think the boss is serious, even if the contestants are shown to be such massive buffoons.

The good thing i can take from this, based on the comments here is that perhaps i was not considered to be a big enough moron myself, and so i bombed out on the second stage. For me it would have been a massive thrill to see how i would act under the pressure with no where to hide. It wouldn’t have been to get the job to be honest, but to test myself. Same with shows like American Inventor, they 98% of the time they focus on the idiots, only a small amount of airtime is devoted to the real thing….

So you come in here ranting and raving at my innocent post, trying have a go and then you want to apologise! You gotta be kidding mate. I tell you what, why dont you take your toys and your pram and go play on the tracks.

Did i or anyone else on here who ever made a post thats not at your pretentious level ever ask for your respect....no dont think so. If i wanted to be taken seriously i guess i would have done what you did. Come in here charging and breathing fire, then cowering away and apologising at the end, youre sad mate, very very sad.

I tell you what, if your nappy is wet, dont come shouting your trash at me or anyone else just making innocent posts here. Get with it or get lost, cause youre stinking up the place.

I like the show, realise it's edited in a way to keep us all entertained - could be worse, Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares USA is so over the top it's unreal.

It's funny at the beginning of every series when they each declare why there going to win and that CV contains this that and the other. Then they go and crack under pressure!!

It's true gouldie0, these shows are all just for show, even so i did apply just for the heck of it, and then i got in. All of a sudden im like, shoot what now, because you have to spend like a month away from home (wife and kids). I ended up going anyway, but im not sure i would have actually gone through with it, if i were chosen. It's like winning a prize, you just have to feel a little chuffed you know. Back then i did think it was only by chance that there were a bunch of loonies in that show, now i know different, that's their gimmick.
