Any success using video?

Just curious as to whether anybody uses video on their website, for any purpose, and if it has helped increase conversions in any way....

Yes I have video on every page of my website and it's increased our enquires leading to more business.

We had a specific target audience in mind and the videos are designed to make the website a bit more personal.

It all depends on what kind of website it is.

I repaired a broken down washing machine watching a video on a website, so that helped tremendously as I ordered the spare parts of their website.

We created the videos and the content to be as easy to digest as possible with a view that the customer could get the information they require as quick as possible, make a decision and then move on.

Very nice website. But I think that video shouldn't start without asking visitor if he want to watch it. It's like background music on websites, many people find this annoying. Imagine situation that it's late evening, your little baby is sleeping and you are browsing websites without your speakers turned off, you enter the website like this and the sound wakes up your baby.
There should be "watch our video" button or something like this.
Btw. the speaking person on your website should introduce himself with his name and his position in the company at the beginning of the video.

Videos are a good way of keeping potential customers spending time on your pages which obviously helps with SEO.
Aside from that if they are relevant and even more so if they provide assistance in some way, whether that be info or a guide as to how to do something.

I agree with bjeu that videos that start up straight away are a big turn off for me and everyone I have asked. Two years ago it seems a week didn't go by without someone trying to sell us this service so we did do some reasearch and the feedback we got was about 90% negative.

Great its working for you and gaining business though. I guess if the content is good then people will stay and listen.


Interested to hear that embeded video "helps with SEO" I'd not heard that?

Yes, as it keeps the time on page higher than it normally would be.
It will be recognised as genuine interest and therefore the visit to the site is less likely to be from an illegal backlink.

Hi bjeu, yes you are quite correct in terms of web standards it isn't politically correct to have the videos start straight away.

However, we made a decision to do this on purpose, our target audience doesn't care about the rights and wrongs of web design, the just want some help.

So with this in mind we made the videos play straight away in order to get their attention.

This may change as I will be looking to re-develope the site at some point and we can always set up an A/B test to get some stats.

Are you kidding? I've built a whole successful marketing business with video. Google loves video and video can drive free traffic to your website and get you ranked higher in the search engines. Video is the way to go for any promotion of any website, any product and any service in any industry anywhere in the world.

Your creativity is up to you, video is the format you can do what ever you want with it.
If you don't want a person in it that's fine, just make it short and engaging and always try and think what your viewer would think when watching it, if it's boring for you then chances are it will be for them.

Of course it is! We use both images and real video in our productions, which works well- (and not everyone wants to/ can appear on camera). The bottom line is , as davehalo1 has said, be creative, engaging etc, but never lose sight that at the end of the day it is a marketing message, maybe dressed up as an infomercial yes, but designed to increase business none the less.

there's a guy called Jon Benson, a fitness expert who also does VSLs (Video Sales Letters). He has charged thousands for this service, and one guy even paid him $100k for one.

Very successful! And very interesting to me as a copywriter - so I went and got his course (3x VSL course).

Gonna get me some of that action!



But yes, a very effective sales strategy, if you know how to do it correctly.
