Any podcasters in UKBF?

I'm toying with the idea of creating a podcast, but don't really have a clue where to really start.

I have downloaded Audacity, and could waffle on but don't want it to sound boring.

The podcast would be aimed at travel consumers.

Any tips?

I did a test one a while back -

I can get a pretty good sound because I've got a small home studio. I recorded with a reasonably good condenser mic, Apple Logic Express, a UA-4FX soundcard and my old Clavinova electric piano for the phat choons in the background. The end result is, I think, a triumph of cheese.

I hear Audacity is excellent, and I'll be interested to hear how you get on. I keep meaning to do more, but it's finding the time...

Ever thought of creating jingles?

Indeed I have, but a bit of research revealed it's actually more hassle and less well-paid than writing copy at every level of the business.

One of the famous exceptions is the bloke who wrote the classic 1970s Smash jingle, "for mash make Smash!". The account exec walks into his room at the ad agency, says "I need a jingle for Smash instant mashed potatoes."

Bloke thinks for two seconds, then sings the words and the four notes. Exec says, "that'll do nicely" and walks out again. Bloke makes about £500k off it.

Until the day I have an idea like that, I'll stick to doing music for fun :)

BTW - you don't need the gadgets. Just a good mic - even one on a headset should do it. Just make sure it's got a pop shield/windscreen to take out the plosives.

If you're using a standalone mic (rather than a headset with a stick-on windscreen) you don't even need to buy a shield - you can make one out of a coathanger and an old pair of tights. Anything that stops the air blowing directly out of yer gob and on to the mic will do the job.
