Any experience with sponsored tweets?

I've been exploring some new advertising opportunities lately, and stumbled across sponsored tweets, where a healthy Twitter account with 1000s of followers charge $x to tweet your product / service.

I've looked at some of the Twitter accounts doing this, and they seem to be genuine, where the Twitter account compliments a website in a certain niche, and has genuine followers.

Has anyone any direct experience with this?

I'm testing this at the moment, 4 days in had 2 tweets to sponsor earned $1.50 so far. Some tweet you are offered are ppc so I suppose if hit one of those you could earn decent money depending on the number of followers you have. The account I'm using has just over 2,000 followers all genuine.

I'm actually looking at it from the other side - as an advertiser looking to reach an audience. Those figures you're quoting look quite low. The ad site I was looking at has publishers selling tweets for $10 and $20 with a following of 3k - 7k.

Yes not looked at that side yet, but I would say for advertisers if they are going to try it get in early - now. The twitter account holders can set a price they will advertise at, for 2,000 followers they suggest $2.50 but I put $1.50 because I'm only testing to learn the process.

I think you would have a long list of tweeters to choose from, I would look for the one that offer the retween as this means if you click rate is low you get a retweets for free up to 3 I think.

Unless they can guarantee that your paid tweets will be seen by a highly relevant group of people, forget it. Especially at the prices you have been quoted.

I have trialed sponsored tweet services with no success. We did it on a CPC model, I can't see why anyone would want to pay for a tweet that may not even get clicked on once.

All tweets now have to come with a sponsorship tag which devalues your tweet massively. I would find other alternative marketing strategies as these don't work very well. A good example is I think it was Snickers and Jordan (Katy price)
