Any Branding Experts...

I'm just finalising all the details of my new websites, but I could really do with speaking to an e-commerce expert on my options for naming and domain names, etc.

I'm just not sure what to do about the names I've chosen.

Basically, I have a domain set up for one of the products I'm releasing this year, but I realised it's only one of four linked items, which might sound a bit weird.

Example: www.redblocks.co.uk, but I've also got green blocks, pink blocks and black blocks.

So, do I go to a name like www.dragonblocks.co.uk (that links all the products under one banner), or do I stick with reblocks, despite the fact that the name, while catchy, is only one of many products?

So, to clarify: find some kind of linking brand name and stick with it... Sounds like a plan...

Not only that, but try to imagine 5yrs down the line. You may want to expand the product range or scope of offers. So even better would be dragonstore.co.uk --not so good in the very short term, but a real investment in mid-long term as it wont box you in.

I'd love to post my options on here to get some feedback, but when you do that, someone always snaps up your domains - grrr

As has been said already, stick with one site and build it.

The pros are simple:

Just one site to manage and market
As you add products your site will naturally grow and big sites generally rank better anyway.

Also of course, to build a successful business you need a brand.

One question:

Do you expert the term "red blocks" to be meaningful to potential customers without context?

Keeping redblocks.co.uk and using it to sell other colours is fine, unless:

If a user searched for something like:

"Buy green blocks" and saw your URL: redblocks.co.uk/products/green (for instance)

Would that confuse them? If so, it could hurt click through rates which would be bad for SEO.

If you don't think that will be a problem, go ahead with redblocks... but if you do think it could be a problem, dragonbricks may be the better URL.

Either way though, pick one and stick with it, focus on building one, really great web-shop & brand.
