Just logged in to my big commerce account to be told that they are changing price plans. They now calculate your price plan...that's right, you can't choose what plan is best for you, they now tell you. Our monthly plan has gone from $35 to $195! This is based on how many sales you make, regardless of how much profit you make from those sales.

I'm totally shocked at the way they have treated their customers. Looks like its time to find a new platform and quick!

It's a shame they've decided to apply a new pricing structure to existing customers. SaaS vendors often allow existing customers to retain their pricing when things are moved around. Have you tried getting in touch to see if they could make an exception for you?

Wow, that's quite an increase really. Did they give any warning they were doing this?

It's a shame really, it just angers customers. They know it can be a hassle to move a website, especially once order and payment systems are in place and working and most will just pay it.

We have a couple of clients using Big Commerce. I will check to see how their price plans have changed.

It is a horrible way to deal with customers, I don't know any other platforms that don't let you choose which payment plan suits your business best. Mike I did contact them, the response was "if you don't feel like Bigcommerce is the platform for you anymore, we wish your company luck"!!! Basically leaving me with no choice but to find another platform to use. The change takes place on 1st April so I have a couple of months to get a new site together. I can't justify $195 when you really don't seem to get anything extra for your money.

Thank you for posting this, I never noticed until I read the thread. I cannot believe they are doing this, unacceptable.

I am going to call sales number and tell them I am going to cancel unless they keep us on the current rate. If they do not, then I will cancel and move else where.

Everything at the moment is going up in price yet our products stay the same or even go lower in price. I mean the new e bay requirements to stay top rated. Have increased our postage costs significatively. I will let you know how I get on in trying to keep the price the same

It's actually worse than I thought, $195 is the current plan price. Under the new pricing the pro plan will be $400. They've worked it out on the number of sales we have had. So we had 4389 sales last year that puts us on the pro plan for $400, if we go to 5000 sales we then get charged an extra $80 on top of that. So my $35 a month plan has gone to $400! It's beyond a joke. I really don't want to change my site but I will not pay $400. I had so many problems with the site this summer, 3 days where no product pages were showing. Multiple times when our cart wasn't loading.

Their pricing is confusing, it's not clear on the pricing page whether the $199.95 is per year or per month. If it's per month as you're saying, I don't understand why they would charge $199.95 per month and then apply a yearly order limit, surely the order limit should be monthly (e.g. 250 orders per month rather than 3k per year).

Additionally their Standard and Plus plans appear to be limited by your turnover but the Pro plan is limited on the number of sales, how confusing is that? I can see where you're coming from now regarding choosing your own plan, if you're doing less than the $50k or $125k sales on the Standard/Plus plans, it seems like you should be on one of those.

They really need to choose what metric they're using to define their plans, then make the pricing page more clear. I'm surprised they won't make an exception for their existing customers, clearly customer loyalty means nothing to them.

There is an enormous thread on this subject in their forum (you will need to log-in to see it).

I can understand their reasoning behind the changes and the principle behind it is fair enough, but they haven't handled it well and it certainly isn't very straight forward. Unfortunately those doing high volume but low turnover are falling outside of the new metrics.

I am guessing that your AOV is relatively low?

There a number of customers in the thread that expressed their displeasure at the new plans on the basis that they were processing several thousand orders per year under £10 or so. They were encouraged to contact sales to discuss their account further.

We are already on Enterprise so there is no change for us.
