An agency in the UK have been charging a potential new client £750/month for the last 6 months, with a £3,000 upfront fee for their services.

The client has www and non-www sites for both the .co.uk AND the .com domains, effectively having 4 identical websites.

Surely all SEO companies should check for the correct 301 redirects as a basic? Would this be a breach of contract?

How important is it to comply with Google's duplicate content policy?

If in their contract there is a clause that states they will carry out a technical audit and ensure that there are no technical issues affecting performance in the search engines, then it could be deemed breach of contract (or more likely failing to carry out their duties as per their contract) which really isn't breach and might not be enough to make the contract null and void.

Do you know for a fact they haven't raised this with the site developers?

He couldn't raise it as he didn't know. I was Skyp'ing him on Sunday and that was the first thing I picked up.

Besides, as far as I can tell, the company who built and maintain his website are the same compeny with the SEO services. He has no Google login nor FTP, I've asked the client to see if he actually owns the site at all...
