    I am confused.

I submit RTI returns for payroll clients and receive confirmation onmy business email.

Today I received the following on my personal email (different domain name and everything):

We could not process your Full Payment Submission.
The submission for reference 475/R******52 was successfully received and was not processed.

Check attached copy for more information.

This is an automatically generated email. Please do not reply as the email address is not monitored for received mail.

The attached was a zip file. I haven't opened it as it appears suspicious. The submission reference does not appear to be one of my clients

Anyone else had anything similar, and is there any advice on what I should do?

Thanks for the advice. I have forwarded it to HMRC. What worries me is that, if it had come to my business address I would probably have opened it. :|

Was the PAYE reference they quoted correct? If not, it's a blatant phishing attempt.

Amusingly, I am currently receiving mails about my "payroll run" having failed which are obviously aimed at US companies. They also contain zipfiles just aching to be opened. Amateurs! :D

Rule of thumb - don't open ANYTHING with a zip file attached - it's almost certainly a phishing or virus email, even if at first glance it appears to be genuine. They are trying pretty hard - I have had these emails from lots of sources (all fake, of course, but they look plausible until you see the zip attachment) and they all go straight to trash - some of them are caught by AVG and plonked in the virus vault.
