Huge sums of money being wasted on obsolete forms of defence.

I would guess that almost any ship can be knocked out by a US drone or missile fired by a 19 year old kid in Texas whilst he plays with his Ipad.

Because the government will probably of had a trade agreement in place with the South Korea which means we have to send them a certain amount of trade and in return they do us some little trade favours too, maybe some DVDs or I don't know..a few pencil sharpeners for Westminster.

We have the skills base in this country, don't let the media put manufacturing down, but successive governments have been uninterested as they are chasing overseas trade agreements.

The British companies pulled out when they heard how cheap Daewoo were doing the work. Whether the ships will be to the highest standard or not..don't know..Daewoo are good with commercial contracts but UK government contracts are known to cause problems because they interfere A LOT.

And in a similar vein, Cheshire Police have recently announced that they will be buying their new panda cars from the far east rather than from the local Vauxhall factory in Ellesmere Port. That'll be the final nail in a few thousand North West manufacturing jobs not to mention the knock-on effect in the local community.

Did UK firms think we are too expensive so what's the point in us bothering to tender?

Once the unions went completely bonkers in the 70's and 80's with demarkation and walking out every half hour the writing was on the wall for most ship construction in the UK. One of my mates Greek dad used to have them all built here for decades but with the delays etc he couldnt afford to go on and also shifted to korea.
I think jolly mr salmond thinks we are going to get ships made in scotland when he wont be contributing to defence

Actually I think GM USA want to kill Vauxhall anyway. There are loads of willing buyers but GM don't want them to steal their technology, especially the Chinese. This is why Saab went bankrupt as they were also part of GM.
