Does anyone know how soon near year end you can do annual return online?

Our year end is 31st October. I am most likely getting maternity allowance starting 1st November so won't be able to work at all then would I get away with doing the return on 31st October.

On companies house it says return due by 28th November, is the final date it can be done.

Thanks

Alison

The annual return is a "photograph" of the company as at the annual return date so cannot be done before then. It is completed as at the anniversary of the incorporation of the company, not your year end. Normally, the year end of the company is the end of the month of incorporation so the annual return date is fairly close to the year end.

Have a look at the paperwork from Companies House, the Annual Return date is on there. You should do the annual return within 4 weeks of the date shown but in reality, a return may be filed ages later. They are only interested in the £15 fee. I have done them a year late, there is no fine for late filing but they do get very stroppy!

You won't get away with filing the AR a year late now! They are very keen to strike off any company which doesn't file within a reasonable amount of time after its deadline.

Hi Alison,

You normally have 28 days beyond the anniversary of you incorporation date each year to file your AR. If you're registered to complete it online it's easy really, takes about 10 mins as most of the info is already there, if you've had no changes in the structure of your business you just need to confirm each section is the same.
