Android vs iPhone

I go between the 2 platforms.

Currently I use for business and personal Google (Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 tablet) as I like how everything is integrated between my desktop, mobile and tablet – I also love Google Navigation and Google Talk and some other Google apps.
I did love my iPhone and iPad (iPhone 4, iPad 2) as everything run smooth and worked perfectly, I had previously had another android phone (HTC Desire) but it was buggy and horrible – a problem I have never found with Apple.
My current phone and tab are both pure Google devices (Running the latest Jellybean software) and im more than happy – just as reliable and bug free as the iPhone and easier to get on with due to the heavy customization (I can book appointments from my home screen on a widget and it instantly shares this with my PC and tab) and is much easier to get on with as I don’t rely on iTunes.
One thing I really miss with Apple is the quality of applications – I hope Android catches up soon but for now Apple had much better quality control.
I also don’t like how most android handsets have the manufacturers skin and software installed, my Mrs just got a Galaxy S3 and I hate it compared to my Galaxy Nexus as its go so much rubbish installed and makes the phone a bit buggy - dont think i will ever get a non-Google branded android phone.

I have a Galaxy Nexus and agree its great :)

Full HD screen, plenty of power can even get a lead to plug into into a HDMI TV, Projector etc..

Latest Android version is nice as well.

All the Google tie ins are great, if you use Google Apps then an android phone works really nicely.

Also check out Google+ functioality to automatically upload photos as you take them, great for peace of mind/backups.

In terms of functionality and value I would go for Android. In terms of style and street cred go for iPhone. It has much nicer bells and whistles but I go for function every time and so will always vote for Android.

These sorts of threads always end up in a fanboy flame war where my phone does this and my phone does that so it's must be better debate.

Instead ask yourself this. It's not a case of which one is better, it's a case of which one best suits my needs
i.e Am i going to use it mainly for business or pleasure? do I have a gmail or hotmail (now outlook) account etc? Do I already use a Mac? and so on.
Then, when you start looking at the bigger picture you can then see what phone does what, what apps are out there and what mobile platform will cover the bases you need in your everyday use.

This is true, also there is only ever 1 iPhone model on the market at a time whilst there are 100's of android phones. So it is more likely that people will have a mixed android experience depending on the hardware they are using.

I have used an iPhone since the iPhone3 came out, and would never consider changing a)because it does what I want and b) because every time I try another phone it is just "different" and feels uncomfortable to use because I am so used to the iPhone and how it works.

I've had both iPhones and Android phones/tablets and have to say if you want something that just works you cannot go wrong with the iPhone. They are excellent quality and in my experience the iPhone versions of apps tend to be better (i.e. Bria and iWHMCS) in terms of functionality and 'eye candy'.

If you like the ability to 'play' with a device then Android is the obvious choice, with community built ROMs, rooting, etc.

Like most things there is no right or wrong answer, just go for the device that meets your needs...

All the Google tie ins are great ...

Not in my experience, they are not.

The Gmail app built into my Samsung Galaxy has some major annoyances, including truncating messages when replying. If you use email in a collaborative way, eg copy someone into a reply, then it's unusable as they will not able to read the history, as Google have taken it on themselves to remove part of it without asking. You also cannot set where replies are stored, which makes a mess if you use threaded views in other applications.

So for me it's unusable, I use K9 mail instead.

Interesting

TBH I tend to use the phone for reading emails rather than necessarily replying to them much

The thing I love the most is the calendar integration so I get reminders + texts + popups on my phone.

I get a whole cascade of reminders which I am sure most people would find irritating but for me it helps to not miss appointments etc

There's no doubting the iPhone is a decent piece of kit. But I find the "Apple" culture quite scary and out to control anything that moves. Fraid I just can't join their club.

For me, one word = Android ;)

I'm the same

I think the hardware is beautiful

The OS is just poshNix basically, so from a Linux background is actually quite comfortable if you can live with the UI quirks

The thing I like the least is all the various levels of lock in and cash extraction which is the polar opposite of the Linux world where I can blow all my hard earned on the best hardware I can find and expect the vast majority of software to be free of charge.

Its roughly the same with Android vs iOS

The power of smart phones is quite incredible. In my pocket I have a sat nav, a GPS with 1:25 ordnance survey maps, a recording studio, a video camera and the list goes on. My tool of choice is the iPhone 4S and I love it. The quality feel of the Apple device over any other smart phone I've pawed is night and day.

The device's only challenge IMHO is battery life but there's always somewhere to juice up.

I'm biased towards Apple having dumped PC's in favour of a MacBook Pro, which again I love working on. Apple all the way for me ;)
