Android Tablets

Hi

Dont know if this is the right spot to put this thread but here goes.

Im trying to ascertain the demand for non big brand Android tablets at the moment, we have recently signed up with company to distribute their branded Android tablets in the UK and Ireland and we have agreed to take a certain amount each month in order to have exclusive distribution.

Although the products are very good when compared to other offerings we have seen of late I am starting to think we may have over committed and been a bit over zealous on the sales forecasts.

How many people have looked into buying these devices?
What are the main things that put you off when compared to say an ipad?
How much of a factory would price point play?

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

I think the problem is that many people see the only option as an ipad. I recently purchased an Android tablet for myself and have since shown it to a few people and told them how much I paid and they are amazed. At least two of them have already purchased on as well. They originally wanted an ipad but could not afford it. The key point for many people is that Android runs Flash. The real problem is that there is very little exposure for Android tablets. Once people see them they are convinced but it's just getting enough people to see then that's the problem.

Price does play an important part in these products sales numbers, I would have a look at the Scroll range from storage options and see what etailors are holding in stock (ebuyer would be a good example) you can also look at end user feedback/facebook comments. Does your tablet have google play out of the box or is it non certified and need to be fiddled to use google play?

You will be competing with
Storage Options (Scroll)
Sumvision (Astro)

Hi
I had recently returned from China with an android tablet in my hand :)

I really like them, but I really am not tekki savvy at all. I got as close to the manufacturers themselves so paid a dirt cheap price. Now I want to sell in bulk in the UK.

I'm not that business minded either ( not much practice in this field), so a couple of questions. Where's the best place to sell these?- android 4.0/0S , some with built in sim readers. My friends and family think I'd make a lot of money doing this. I want to sell to retailers, but who's a good one to approach?

Also what are the things I need to watch out for when importing to the UK from China eg import duty and how much etc etc.

It's great that people I have shown them to are really interested in buying one, but I want to do my homework and research before buying anything.

Thanks for your replies!

If you are looking to resell these through others I'd look at the web. I've found that having spoken to several people about these it's mainly tech-savvy people who are really interested. This will change as it's always the more tech-savvy who adopt such things first. They are a bit of an unknown quantity for the general public.

I'm not sure how you do it but getting these in front of people is going to be critical. Maybe computer shows might as you might be able to offload quite a few during the show in order so spread the word. Also many large shopping malls have stands in the middle of the walkways that people will hire. This would be great to get the message out there and get people to try them out.

The Scroll tablets are going to be your biggest competitor imo. They're selling them for £70 and they do a decent job, not an iPad but equally not the same price.

You can watch YouTube, view websites, do emails, read word and excel documents and you can use apps for making them more business friendly.

If your tablets are less than £100 then you stand a chance of shifting them.

I have a 10.2" tablet it is great for when I am not typing data in as I loath tablets and laptops for this due to using a proper keyboard constantly.

I don't think the brand is important to many, as long as it is UK seller with a decent pitch that pushed warranty etc, they are happy to buy. (as long as the price etc is right of course)

thanks for your replies.

Anyone knows where I can find detailed info on the import tax or experiences in shipping from China to UK? I have shipping prices but don't know the additional costs of bringing them over here.

Esk 247, I have seen some with similar specs going for £70 as another had said, and even at that price if they bought for a similar price to me then they're making a nice profit on each.

Only thing I need to factor in are the additional costs to bring them here and then there is warranty which I also know nothing about..

PLs advise.
Thanks again.

Hey,
i must say i totally agree with you. when talking about tablest, only IPAD is an option. many people are missing the variety of actions and things to do with the android tablets.
but although there are lots of pros to android, there are lots of fakes, that all should consider, when dealing with them.

I have an iPad and an iPhone. However, I consider Android tablets to be as good on many levels and a lot cheaper. Obviously iPad at the moment dominates this market. However, Android phones I believe outsell iPhones, and I do believe with a little bit more time Android Tablets will become even more popular.

In my opinion, the iPad is ridiculously over priced for what it is. If people want a tablet, then I would advise trying out an Android one at nearly half the price.

For the money the tablets we are getting are most likely the best in class we are also able to sell them at competitive rates, offer a full 2 year UK warranty.

They are ready to go straight out of the box and come with Google play and alot of popular apps pre installed so it makes it a breeze for anyone using them to get started.

The BYTE brand was quite big in the UK at one time but was phased out when it was purchased by PC World, this in now being re-launched so fingers crossed with the right marketing support the product should do well and maybe some of the larger retailers may decide to stock them...we will have to see what happens.

I will keep everyone posted.

As long as you do a little research and go for a reasonably reputable seller then I don't think you can go far wrong. I went for a Zenithink ZT-280 on the basis that it had Android 4.0, 1GB memory, a 1Ghz Cortex A9 processor, 8GB onboard storage, and a TF memory slot for a further 32GB storage. The only things it really lacks are a front camera (it has a rear camera for video calls) and USB charging (it has a separate mains charger). Other than that I am really very happy with it - and at only £125.99 is was a real bargain!

Where did you get it at that price? I can only find them with Android 2.3 at that price. I'd be glad of a heads up :)

Here: http://www.ebellking.com/android-tablet/zenithink-c91. In fact they are even cheaper by £10.00 now. That price includes delivery as well. I've bought two so far and they both arrived within 1 week.

This does break one thing I said about buying from a reputable source as I had not heard of them before but I was willing to risk it - and it turned out very well!
