Amtico Flooring

Hi Good Afternoon all,

Are there any suppliers or fitters of Amtico flooring on the Forum who would be willing to answer a couple of questions regarding replacing individual tiles on an already fitted floor? It may help me out of a problem with a customer, many thanks

I have a customer who said we damaged her Amtico floor when we delivered a new fridge, the lad who took it out dragged it across the floor (in the packaging) and as a result they reckon we did the damage, i went and had a look myself and there were in deed scratches in the seven tiles but there was hardly a tile without a scratch to be honest (they have two large dogs). I agreed with them that we would pay to have the seven tiles replaced and that i would contact a local Amtico fitter for them. They however insisted that they wanted the original supplier to do it, so i asked them to send me the estimate and i would pay it if not to expensive, if i felt it was to dear i asked to be allowed to have a local firm look at it to give a quote. I also asked that they have the Invoice sent to me and i would pay the fitter in cash whilst he was on the job so i could at least claim the VAT back. This morning they presented me with a letter from the original supplier thanking them for payment with a hand written note at the bottom asking me to pay them. The amount charged was £197.00.

I am a wee bit put out that they did not give me the opportunity to ok the estimate first.

So the question is does this price seem excessive? (The tiles were supplied by the customer as they had a spare box)

Does sound a bit expensive to me, as the way they remove them is heat them up with a heat gun, then they peel off the floor and once the tile have been removed stick new ones down. Did they get them to strip the floor and re-apply emulsion polish onto them aswell.

As far as i know they removed the tiles using a heat gun re applied screed to the bare concrete and re-fitted the tiles. I do not have the invoice so i do not know what they/we are actually paying; for for all i know i could be paying for travelling time an an overnight stay at a 5 Star hotel! I will probably end up paying we never like to upset our customers but this time i wanted to find out the going rate as i feel we are
(a) paying for at least five tiles we did not damage and
(b) Feel i am being charged extra as the fitter might think "its a company paying for it so i will pad the bill a little"!

Check with the company that it is a genuine invoice and if it has been paid - if nothing else it will give you the opportunity to get a reduction if the bill is still outstanding.

Most people just assume you have a magic insurance policy that refunds all your expenses - if you deal direct with the company who did the repair they'll probably be more understanding?

The work was done through John Lewis so i have no reason do doubt it is genuine although i have not seen the invoice just a letter fron JL to confirm the invoice has been paid. I think i will ask the customer for the Invoice to see exactly what work was done and take it from there. If any one could give me a ballpark figure as to what they charge for this type of work i would be gratefull.

Thanks

It would depend whether they had to buy a new box of tiles or whether they had some spare? Then it depends if the contractor was local or not?

Whichever way you look at it the cost has got to be over £100? John Lewis could have an admin fee on top of the cost too.
