American equivalent of Companies House?

To my knowledge, there's no national register; companies register at the state level. You can find a list of all companies in registered in a state by conducting a Google search for "Secretary of State" and the name of the state. Somewhere on that page you should find a link to Corporations. For example, here's the relevant page for Georgia (and you can see the Search option on the right of that page: http://www.sos.georgia.gov/corporations/ . By law, every company must provide the names of the four principal officers: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer - although one person can fulfill multiple roles.

Because of favourable laws, many large companies choose to register in Delaware.
