I sell on both, and they are about the same in my opinion.

Amazon easy to deal with and manage your listings, buyers tend to be less hassle. Depending on what you sell you may need to sort out barcodes. Amazon fees vary from around 15% upwards.
But there's not a huge difference between the two.

Amazon pay every two weeks into your bank account, the fees are already deducted so there's nothing extra to pay unlike ebay where you get a ridiculous invoice every month.

The fee's depend on the product you're selling, I would link you to the Amazon page that explains all the charges but I don't have enough posts do so yet.

I would start selling with Amazon sooner than later, A previous employer of mine used to make over 2/3rds of all sales via Amazon, with a small portion them comeing from eBay and their own website.

but if you do sell on Amazon they mandate that your prices offered to Amazon customers must match or be lower than the price you offer via your own website or eBay etc.

- this is not the case now; the Price Parity rule had to stop in August 2013 under pressure from the OFT and EU, so you can sell at any price you like

So let me get this straight

So if I sell some thing for £1 on amazon and say there fee was 50% I pocket £0.50 and that's it no pay pal fees listing fees etc

Amazon will tell you your fees before you list an item (if your listing on a product that has already been created)

They will deduct fees before it lands in your Amazon account so you never have to pay an invoice like you did in eBay.

You can withdraw your money daily too if you preferred to.

Dont you have to pay £25 a month to sell on Amazon? Genuine question, I don't know but just googled it as i may be interested in Amazon!?
The £25/month fee is for ProSellers, who get a slightly reduced fee (for most items its 15% instead of 17%). ProSellers can also add new items to the catalogue.

Ordinary sellers have no monthly fee, higher selling fees and can only join existing listed products.

If you are selling more than 30 items a month you are advised to become a ProSeller.

Note: the %fee also applies to the postage charge.

We've had real success this year on eBay with our plastic garden cupboards and shelving, but I'm really struggling to get it moving on Amazon. I suppose there is more business competition on there, and the fact that someone else in another country had already listed our best selling items. They have listed them with a really poor main photo & description, and because I'm not the owner of the page, I can't change the photo without applying to Amazon. I'm going to have to put some time aside to get it sorted!

The Proseller status also allows you to set your own delivery charges on certain items (not books or media), otherwise Amazon set them for you. The £25/month was worth this alone for us.

I Sell gaming headset on Amazon. There are several platforms to do B2C business. But i prefer to Amazon since i consider that building a happy shopping trip for customers should be the core part to every seller.And Amazon has many systems to achieve that,such as the Amazon FBA. You know, "every little help" for our customers could make you further more.

all of my items are unique (i.e. my own brand) so it is difficult for me to sell on amazon. i could get barcodes for them but with all the fees on amazon not sure it would be worth it? Seems like a lot of hassle to list stuff on there. I'm interested but I'm reducing my reliance on eBay to sell more on my website so think it would be silly to pass more away again to other companies. I do look into FBA from time to time, maybe get something up and running for christmas...

I think it is fair to say that the fees on both platforms are very high, especially when you factor in the price competitiveness of the online market spaces and the thin margins we are all working with already. However, it has been proven that to be successful online, you need to be were "the eye balls are" and Amazon and eBay have millions of viewers every day and on that basis I would say trade on both. Get paid every two weeks on Amazon (plus 3 days to clear your bank account) so not great for cash flow as they hold the money to ensure the customer has received the product.

The fees are indeed high, but you have to compare it to the cost running your own website with a marketing budget that can generate a similar amount of traffic. Usually this means that small medium-sized sellers are better of on Amazon/eBay.

Both are great, but I think Amazon wins for me because it's cheaper and the UI is nicer and less complex (read: cluttered), plus I think eBay is still seen as more of an auction website for people to sell the odd second hand item, rather than for serious retailers.

You can set a delivery charge on amazon but they still only credit u a set amount I think?
Their payments sometimes take 5 -7 days to show in bank after they say they've sent it which can be two werks after the sale - so 3 weeks to get paid and when we started selling on amazon germany they also held 10% of income as a rolling reserve in case of returns.
Their seller help is awful - they don't even seem to read your query properly before sending a template reply.
One bank holiday weekend, we had a customer query on a sunday and since we were closed and didn't reply till tuesday, they marked down our seller score! You must reply within 24 hours and they expect a 7-day a week service.
Their feedback system is stupid too - if 10 people sell the same product, the feedback is shown for all so if one firm sends an order two weeks late or sends damaged goods, the star rating will be low on the product ! Sorry - rant over. I hate amazon and as soon as we can, we will stop selling there. Fees are high and service is rubbish - but at least it avoids paypal!
