Hi all,

I’ve got a little automotive tools business ( non vat registered)

We have been selling on eBay for about 3 years & do ok with sales 20-30k a year.

I’m currently thinking of selling on Amazon & would like to package the items my self.

Now this is the question, do Amazon arrange a courier to collect parcels
From you so they arrive on time?

Or would you just send with Royal Mail as I normally do.
Now Obviously Amazon you always know the exact date it’s coming ?

Regards lee

    You can do Amazon FBA
Fulfillment by Amazon – FBA - Sell on Amazon

Amazon Prime customers are very important criteria.
To enter the Amazon prime category, you need to send your products to the amazon warehouse.

If the product volume is large and less than 20 orders per day, you can ship from your own warehouse.

We sell on Amazon, but we dropship from our suppliers. We don't ship from our office, and don't use FBA. We know that our suppliers will ship either that day, or the day after depending on the time the order hits us - and we give a 3-4 day delivery timescale in the settings which covers us 99% of the time - unless there are any courier issues/lost packages etc.

Using Amazon FBA can be advantageous, but I would recommend testing with a few products initially before committing a substantial amount of inventory. Are you retailing products under your own brand, or are you reselling items from other brands?

If you’re reselling, sales can be unpredictable, and product storage fees, depending on the size, must be considered. Competing with other sellers on price can lead to a “race to the bottom,” affecting profits. On the other hand, selling your own branded products allows greater control over pricing, although it usually requires more effort to stimulate initial sales. Negative reviews from dissatisfied customers can significantly impact sales. From my experience, Amazon and eBay cater to distinct customer bases, with Amazon customers being more prone to leaving negative feedback. However, the potential sales volume on Amazon is usually higher than on eBay, and products generally can be sold at a higher price point on Amazon.

Amazon Prime customers are very important criteria.

If the product volume is large and less than 20 orders per day, you can ship from your own warehouse.

Many customers buy from amazon itself or amazon fulfilment sellers because its quick delivery.
I ordered some items Monday morning around 5am. Half of what I ordered was delivered same day, most of the rest the next day. One item I'm waiting till early November for.

If i ordered now (5.44pm on a Saturday) I'd expect delivery tomorrow.

Fulfilment by amazon costs you control as you don't get to decide anything. Does mean someone else is packing and sending the item.
I used to do £20k plus a month in sales, most via amazon fulfilment. Went into hospital for a few days, orders still got sent out.
And the financial costs overall was lower using amazon than sending myself.

Its not suitable for all product types and can have additional costs to prepare stuff for being stored on shelves and sent out by people whose goal is to pack multiple items per minute.
A chunk of what we sold was fragile so we prepacked to send to amazon in suitable sized boxes with masses of padding. Cost us financially and in time to prep, zero returns for breakages on those products.

Also used to sell the same products on ebay. Using amazon as a fulfilment house for the product. Sale on ebay, tell amazon to send our product to whatever address, item delivered. Costs more that way but again someone else doing the packing and shipping.
We had a 2 person business doing 100 plus hours a week at busy time and would have needed several staff employed (with all the headaches that has) at a cost of thousands a week to do what amazon were doing for us for below our royal mail cost per item.

Amazon are not the only fulfilment business out there, can be worth checking others. When amazon get things wrong they can be very wrong.
Including items sent in no longer available to sell due to hazardous materials like cardboard, silk, paper, cotton and wax. Resolving problems with amazon can be a pain.

They still send me notification of items held in their warehouse that I need to action to remove or destroy. Over 6 years after my company was dissolved.
