Am I To Young?

    Honestly now, do you think I am to young to start my own business. I have mentioned my business so many times on this forum (Online Travel Agency - which specialises in one particular area, but would look to do overall holidays if business is successful), and at the age of 19, do you think I am to young to do it alone?

    you are not too young to start traveling business at the age of 19
    I start business at the age of 14 and now i am 24 and still doing the business in India
    in which location you are planning to start business.
    As I am also finding the person to start business.
    If we both can go together then we both can look after our business and help each other

    You're old enough to do a job when you're old enough to do a job! It's as simple as that.

    You don't necessarily need experience, etc., you can get the right advice from other people who have been there and done that.

    If you are sure you can pull it off in a crowded market then age shouldn't stop you! GO FOR IT!

    Not at all. Why would it be?

    If you don't have the abilities or skills to run the business properly, then that's down to you, not your age. If you do have the skills and abilities, then you have just as much of a chance to make a success of it as anyone else.

    back the original question, if you dont try you dont know...but be prepared to work bloody hard, learn a hell of a lot in a short space of time and wish you'd never started this whole thing......once you're over that you will be fine!!!!!!

    I totally agree with that I am only 20 myself. By you asking that question in the first place makes me question are you ready yourself for this. Initially you will put a huge amount of time in with no real rewards and you need to be clued up and be able to make decisions all by yourself. At times you will just want to walk away from it and hit your head off your desk repeatedly.

    Good advice is learn from other peoples mistakes and never be afraid to ask for help as there are so many people that think business is easy and they fail in 3 months because of basic silly thing's.

    And do research you can never do enough research.

    I'm 21 and with 5 employees our business is going from strength to strength.

    I've discovered that the only real secrets to business are luck and the will and ability to ask and learn valuable lessons from people with a good deal more experience than yourself. There's no shortcut to this learning curve and you'll find that whoever you are it takes a considerable amount of time. The sooner you get started the sooner you'll start learning.

    Lesson One - You should probably learn the difference between "to" and "too" if you want your clients to take you seriously ... You are too young to gamble in Vegas

    Thanks for the positive advice business pros. Much appriciated. The reason I asked, was because I wasnt sure if people would take me serious (as in businesses, if I wanted to do partnerships etc, would they say no because of my age). I am rediculously ambitious, but am not stupid with decisions. If I think something is wrong, I wont pursue with it.

    Again thanks for the advice and help guys, its given me more of an inner confidence to think people wouldnt take me as a joke in business at this age.

    There will be business people that will try and take advantage of your age and try and pull the wool over your eyes but just tell them not to BS a BSer

    Age is not in your passport - its in your head ;) Nobody is going to tell you - YES or NO. You have to feel it yourself. You dont know until you try!

    Most people probably eon't take you seriously up front, they didn't take me seriously at that age. In part I can see that despite my abilities I was probably showing my age still... Even now at 27 I can see people suprise, especially if I have dealt with them on the phone for a period prior to meeting them face to face!

    That said these challenges can be addressed, people may be suprised but they won't tell you to p*ss off straight away - you always have 5 minutes to say the right things and demonstate you are serious and worth their attention.

    Or if you think something is wrong you could fix it instead! Most things don't want to work, they have to be manhandled and made to work. Thats probably the difference between success and failure in most cases. Business is about finding a way to make the seamingly obscure work. If it was easy and came down to common sense and obvious choices everyone would be doing it.

    It's odd that you should be concerned about your age without making mention of your other attributes. You can't develop your age any faster than nature allows. But everything else that could make you succesful right now you can work on.

    Do you think age is the only issue you face? What about experience and wisdom? These things are not always linked to age.

    Why do you need to tell anyone that your 19? I think that just leaves you open to people thinking there is a reason they shouldnt do business with you.

    Don't mention it and get on with it, If they have a problem with it then let them get on with it. I dont see why they would personally though.

    Exactly. People who are 30/40/50/60 don't randomly tell their clients their age, so why should you?

    If they ask, then tell them, otherwise just get on with it like every other business person does. You're no different.

    I was thinking that age should not be a barrier, and then I read this post from you!

    So I have to say, I think perhaps not, at the moment.

    As someone pointed out in that thread, you could have researched that yourself.

    Get your business head on , and getting thinking and focusing in one direction.
    You seem a little all over the place at the moment.

    I know you want to self fund your travel business - so are looking towards other jobs in the meantime - good luck in that respect - and with your intended business.

    But, I think you need to start to pull it all together, stop asking what others think - and go with what you want and believe to be right for you, and more importanly, at the right time for you.

    AGain, really nice feedback from you guys. I am sorry for posting such a stupid thread, but I just wanted to know if it would affect me if I started my business at a young age.

    I will take everything on board and just go for it. Its life, got to get on with it through good and bad.

    p.s the reason I give my age was so you could comment, as someone was bound to ask "so you say your too young, so how old are you" but from now on I wont mention my age, thats the best thing.. ay ScottCopy and Design :)
