I know Mothercare is located on the retail site however it should not display.

This is twice I have picked up on wrong titles for instance one our clients;

When you search "Monsterstuff" if brings their website first with the title "monsterstuff.com" yet firstly it's a .co.uk and secondly if you search Monster stuff Novelty Gifts -it's a different title for the same page.

Also I have seen, searching Revax Media will remove the | Revax Media from our page titles. Fairly new update I think...

This is what makes the google places system a complete and utter joke.
1. they decide they know what title is best to show
2. they auto match places listings combining anything with the same telephone number or address or remotely looks like being the same business.
3. they replace your title with their screwed up page title.

Too clever for their own good.

Google Places is a mess.

I'd love to know what to do when there are duplicate Places listings, send a report to the team and 6 months later still no action. This is pretty common as well.

Merged and incorrect listings as you've mentioned isn't a one off, it happens now and again when listings share names or are located close together. I've seen a laundrette I worked on listed as the bar a few doors down.

Mothercare World is the prominent anchor in the Teesside Park retail outlet.

Google does synonym replacement all the time, so..

Start with Google seeing the meme, "oh you're searching for mothercare world in teesside park, like most people", pass it off to the adwords macro engine and suddenly you've got the lovely mangled erroneous result.

Easy to explain, hard to fix :p
