Hello

I am opening a company selling a specific item of clothing, I have recruited A branding company, someone to produce a high end website and I'm in talks with fulfilment companies at the moment.

All of which I am confident I am doing the right thing with and I can trust.

My problem is my product is being bought from china, through a company found on Ali baba and from reading this forum everyone advises to be very careful. I can't find any other companies that produce this type of garment so that i can compare them. I am happy with the cost of the item which is $23 per piece but the delivery charge is $13 per piece which is unbelievable. My first order was going to be 100 pieces. Does this sound right? What steps can I take to find another supplier?

Best wishes

Hi,Can't comment on the delivery cost cause you haven't provided the info of weight or dimension, but if the supplier delivers 100 pieces in one shipment,I believe the cost will be a lot less.

On the other hand,I also work with garment(corsetry) in China,if I can be a bit of help for you, just PM me.

There's nothing wrong with using a supplier from Alibaba - yes, there are scammers there but they mostly deal with branded, fake items. If it's a un-branded piece of clothing and manufacturer looks legit to you, there shouldn't be any problems. Just make sure you do a background check on them (Alibaba profile, Google search, website etc.)

Make sure you order samples first. If quality is ok, only then proceed with bigger orders. For really big orders, it would be a good idea to get a sourcing agent inspecting goods before shipment.

Don't know what the garment is but $13 per piece in shipping costs seems rather high to me. Or is that for a sample? As for 100 pieces it would be $1300 which is VERY high, even for most expensive courier companies.

    Hi,

Sounds high to us too. You need to ship in bulk on pallets if possible. You can get an instant quote at www.p4d.co.uk/pallets or for boxes at www.p4d.co.uk.

Weight and dimensions of the product is key to price - heavier and bigger = more expensive. Make sure you look at all your options though.

If you need any more info, let us know, and good luck!

See if you can arrange your own collection using DHL or similar. There are loads of shippng agents in the UK that can assist you.

As long as the products are not ridiculously large and bulky the costs should be considerably less than you have been quoted.

According to my experience, people advising u to be careful is correct. That doesn't mean that the suppliers are unreliable or cheating. But the follow-up job will be more important as there always comes some unexpected quality problems. So once u select the suitable supplier, u must take care of following-up.

Regarding the shipping cost, it depends on the total gross weight and the brand(if it's copy brand or not), but just check the price from your local agent and from China both, if it's not much big difference, then it's correct.

Hope it will help u. Happy new year and good luck to u. ^_^ Joyce Zhu
