I have a small business that's purely seasonal where I offer a mobile air-conditioning re-gassing for cars.
Well I have had an idea this weekend while having my car washed at the local hand car wash... It is based on the fact that they always give away a free air freshener with every wash. So I'm thinking of offering these for free saving them money but they would come with my logo and contact details.
Basically I'm wondering if this is something you would notice or would I be chucking my money away, it's gonna cost about £350 for 1000 of the things!!!!
Anyway any input would be great, even alternative ideas. I currently get most of my jobs via a local garage referring, my website and adverts on gumtree and eBay of all places.

You know what? This is a great idea. I'm an estate agent, and have a load of empty properties. The amount of times I've been out and brought air fresheners to hide the musty smell of an unventilated empty house is unbelievable.
Slightly different to your car fresheners, but I'm going to steal this idea. Thank you

Breaking Good

We sell these and I agree with @AllUpHere. With any promotional product, you should only be doing if if you have a clear well thought out strategy. Think carefuly about what you want to print and how you can measure your ROI.

For example, you could print an offer on the air freshener - 10% off if they show you the air freshener or something like that. This way you can measure how many people have come to you directly from this and you'll soon see whether the £350 investment is working or not.

That's 35p of every job you do towards marketing.

How many jobs will it take to pay back that £350? AKA how many transactions do you need to attribute to the fresheners?

At 35p that's 1% of the profit for each successful service so it is a viable option. Think I need to give it a punt, it's an uknown until I try...
So I would need 10 sales out of the 1000 air fresheners to break even.
I don't know that's 10 hours work to recover the investment, but hopefully more sales plus the word of mouth!

Argh decisions decisions!!!
