Hi, my first post, I hope this is the right place to ask,

I recently changed from a sole trader business to a limited company, and as a consequence my card processor has asked than our goods are delivered by a courier that will verify and keep a record that the person our goods are delivered to is over 18. We have been told that this is a new requirement of Visa/Mastercard because it is alcohol we manufacture/sell. Does anybody know of a nationwide courier service that can do this.

Cheers

Already asked them, they don't know of any.
They tell me that these are recently added requirements, and I am not sure if they are totally up to speed with what's required, as all the new requirements were requested over a 3 week period, instead of all at once, which I would have expected.

Hi there,

No courier is meant to leave a parcel with a person under 18. We have customers who deliver alcohol and it is a condition of the booking that ID is checked - this would be written on the label. However, like anything in life, of course we could never guarantee it should a particular driver decide not follow the rule, but we certainly do all we can as do our carriers.

We rarely receive a complaint in this area - if anything, we are called because the recipient didn't realise that a minor couldn't accept the delivery and so the delivery fails.

I hope that helps.

Hi Nat,

When you say no courier is meant to leave a delivery with a person under 18, is that the law? a set of guidelines? Do you know where I might find a copy of these rules. Googling has found me nothing so far, and I have a sneaky feeling that when I go back to the card processors, they will want to see the rules.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Companies like mobile phone providers, for example, have contracts in place with couriers to make sure the phone is only signed for by the recipient. The problem you have is that these kinds of stipulations will be expensive - in effect, you're asking for a bespoke service. You could perhaps replicate this kind of contract with a local courier or driver if it is too expensive, but you might want to deliver further afield.

You need to investigate what exactly is required of you - is labeling and notes on the booking enough to fulfill this or not; check your own terms and conditions, and then find the right carrier or delivery service to suit.

I hope this helps,

Nat
