adwords voucher for £75 through the post

We have had this free advert with google come through. I was wondering is it worth using? Is it a hassle to set up and can you cancel ok when the £75 is spent?

Any feedback would be good.

I got a similar offer earlier in the year. Easy to set up, great help from Google guides. You can simply stop the ad when you have reached the £75.

Depending on your product / service, you may want to watch setting the daily budget too high as you may spend more than the £75. Just remember to keep a check on the dashboard in the Google account.

If it works and you get more business, then it would make sense to carry on paying yourself.

I received one for £100 a year or so ago and used it as a trial.

My one piece of advice would be to automatically stop your adwords from going above the £75 spend - you can burn up money very quickly!

To do this, set a daily limit and a length of time for the campaign to run, and make sure that these two times together don't come to more than 75. e.g. You could have a daily limit of £5 for 15 days, or a daily limit of £15 for 5 days etc. You still have to give your credit card details, even though you are using a voucher, in case you don't do the above and overspend!

Best advice I can give you is to choose specific keywords and not general ones.

If you chose 'meat' as a keyword, for example, it would generate interest amongst all sorts of people who would randomly click on your link cost you money - but ultimately have little interest in buying from you. You'd get more clicks but it would be more expensive and the results would be much less targeted.

Much smarter to have range of targeted keywords including 'marinated meats', 'meat worcester' etc. You'll pay less and receive fewer clicks. But they'll be clicks from people who are more likely to be interested in what you have to sell.

Check out which adwords your competitors are bidding on for inspiration.

Don't bother with a 'potters meats' keyword bid because you are already number one in Google for this.
